Found this interesting. I like a lot of Hickock45's gun videos. Probably has the largest following of any gun channel.
There is a group of youtube gun guys who have been very vocal/critical of the NRA. One of them in particular (yankee marshal) has been calling out Hickok for being a paid NRA shill and doing nothing for the second amendment despite being one of the largest youtube gun channels. My guess is all of the attention and pressure caused this move.I don't get it. I'm aware of the NRA troubles so I know why, but their statement makes zero sense to me.

Do you all think we need a fixed NRA or would we be better off with all of that money going to a BIGGER Gun Owners of America?
I believe we need a fixed NRA. They have a long history and are very large with involvement in a lot of places, including politically. It would take a long time and a lot of money build an organization with as much influence. With that said, I don't know if it CAN be fixed. Has the cancer spread too far? I would have to see a detailed plan on how to fix it, which would first need a detailed accounting (pun intended) of what's wrong. Which would require someone new at the helm.Do you all think we need a fixed NRA or would we be better off with all of that money going to a BIGGER Gun Owners of America?
He always mentioned his three primary sponsors (Bud's, Federal & NRA) at the beginning of each video. He urged viewers to "Join the NRA, at a discount, by clicking the link". So, he was likely receiving some kind of compensation. Was he sponsored by NRA (ie: receiving money/product from them), or was he just endorsing them?
I've tried watching his stuff but can't. He's a major fudd when it comes to the 2A.
I have heard YankeeMarshall say this, but I have not seen anything personally from Hickock45. If you have sources, I would appreciate seeing them. Don't want to promote somebody working against the 2A. Thanks.

Yup...there is some bull that was going to be passed so Yankee got up in arms raising money and trying to get support. Started hissy fitting about gun channels that wouldn’t send money and support them. I generally like the Yankee Marshall but found this recent hissy fit irritating. It’s one thing to be passionate about something, but to demand others have to reach the same level of yeetness or they are buggers is just wrong.
That, and he called out DemoRanch, and Matt’s my homeboy.

He is a first rate A$$hole. Have you ever interacted with him directly? He is a jerk. Back in the day when he was on The Firing Line, before he was banned, he was a major PIA. IIRC his handle was PlayboyPenguin. I had a few interactions with him and he got super confrontational to the point of threating violence if we ever met in person which was basically impossible. I believe it was crap like that which got him thrown off most of the boards he posted on. If you watch his actually reviews these days he is shilling for vendors to clicks, money and fame. His actually firearm knowledge is weak.
As for Hickock45 I can see wanting to separate yourself from the current money trail that the NRA has laid out. From all reports the board has been doing a ton of self dealing. They have used their positions on the board to benefit their own personal interests at the expense of the membership. I would not want to be associated with the business side of the NRA right now. YMMV
I watch all of his vids on all of his channels. I hate your view of him is so negative. But as far as firearm knowledge, he has never attempted to paint himself as a firearms expert. He shoots stuff and films it it a comical way.
As an aside; I looked up PlayboyPenguin on the High Road and his bio says he is from Oregon. Matt is from Texas. Not saying your history with him is wrong, but confirming the name is off.

Are you talking about the guy from Demo Ranch? Doesn't seem to be a confrontational type guy.He is a first rate A$$hole. Have you ever interacted with him directly? He is a jerk. 100% sure he is the same guy. His name is real name is David Atkinson. He lives in in WA. His gun forum handle is Playboy Penguin.
Description;
This channel deals with firearms, self defense, prepping, etc. This is a channel is about enjoying hobbies, mutual interests, and not taking yourself too seriously. So sit back and have fun. You might even learn something. David Atkinson The Yankee Marshal

Ahh, dude, we are talking about two different people. The Yankee Marshall may well be PlayboyPenguin. No doubt. I thought you were talking about Matt Carriker of Demolition Ranch.

I'm not sure that GOA has the organization skills of the NRA. Think about all of the marksmanship programs, certifications, and educational materials that the NRA supports. If you don't shoot a target with the NRA logo on it then it doesn't qualify for many competitions (High Power, for example). GOA is a great organization, as is the NRA. Perhaps the NRA should fall back to education and marksmanship and let the GOA take the lead on protecting the 2nd. You really need to have both to be successful.
Different guy. I was talking about Yankee Marshal who you mentioned in the post I quoted. I have no opinion on Matt of Demo Ranch.
I joined the NRA, not for their marksmanship programs etc., but because they promised they would protect my 2nd Amendment rights. I was young and naive 42 years ago.I'm not sure that GOA has the organization skills of the NRA. NPR used to be the closest thing you could find to a neutral news outlet (anybody remember Bob Edwards and Carl Kasell?). Their content was a little left-leaning back then, but their coverage of the content and current events was pretty well-balanced. I always enjoyed listening to them simply because they weren't yelling.NPR had a segment on the NRA yesterday and used a soundbite from Hickok45’s video. However they went about it in a tricky way and instead of referencing his YouTube channel name they used his actual name.
“Hickok45” is way easier to remember and search and they probably didn’t want any of their listeners to watch one of his videos and become interested in something so dangerous as a firearm.
Pretty sure they used a Military Arms Channel soundbite as well (from the recent IV8888 gun gripes vid) as a teaser earlier in the hour but never let people know the source.
I can hardly bear to listen to them.
