C&E’s Hickory Gun Show is this weekend at the Hickory Metro Convention Center. Will be interesting to see how the gun show reaction to whatever happens with the election today/this week.

We will be there is our normal spot. Who else is going?

Is it going to be as barren as the last show? There was one vendor there with a very limited supply of pistols. Otherwise it was pretty sparse.

Impossible to say. A lot of the usual dealers can’t get enough inventory for their shops, much less to sell at gun shows. With that said, inventory has been a bit more plentiful lately.

I hope to be there. I may or may not be carrying around a Mosin of some sort lol. Depends on how lazy I am that day.

I’m going to come to the Hickory show around 10 Saturday. I’m easy to spot in Hickory. I will be wearing shoes and have teeth that have not been devastated by meth.

Note: blue shirt and blue hat with penguin on it.

I think me and my sons are going tomorrow.
I'll be looking for some bullets.

I heard that they announced Biden as the winner at the show and vendors couldn't raise their prices quick enough.

I’d expect it to be insane tomorrow.

Not saying it didn’t happen, but it didn’t see anyone do that.

Everyone around us was indifferent to the announcement. I think the reality set in after 4 days.

They took care of that prior to the set up. Probably 80 percent of the goods were out the roof in price. Even the snacks. I saw $1.00 per round 9mm. 380 ammo at $1.25 per round. Lots of $700 per 1000 round cases 9mm. Vendors selling rifles at MSRP plus 15%, like 30% over regular retail price. Lots of used gun prices at very high prices. Cheaper quality AR15s at almost $1000.

As far as vendors there seems to be a big fall off of many normal higher end guys. Bigger table hand gun vendors have all but disappeared. Many leather crafters have not been in three gun show cycles. Two of larger steel target companies did not show. Hell even the goat soap vendors have failed to come in over four shows.
No survival food vendors again and the MRE guys were a no show.

Still the Chinese goods were represented well. Chinese surplus army gear. Chinese tactical clothing and gear. Chinese red dots, scopes, and slings. Even the Chinese humans represented. I saw very few people actually making a purchase or carrying a purchase unless it happened early before I arrived. Then again people with money to spend get there early, buy, and get out.

And C&E Gun Shows raised their price for entrance again. They are now $10. That’s not a lot of money but it’s now high enough to turn me off from the gun show here. Instead I may get a nice Chinese buffet while shopping online for Chinese junk delivered next day by Amazon. Didn’t buy a single thing for second gun show now. I did waste $10 though.

Talking to me is worth the price of admission.

And, for what it is worth, there were plenty of ARs under $700. We had them on our table. Didn't sell a single one, though we know dealers who sold out at higher prices. Very weird crowd.

I think the name misleads a little. People may think everything at your tables are just collectibles no modern items. Had you been closer to doors in the middle you would out sell everyone on ammo if separate table. Your prices were much lower than most. Think of it like a convenience store reset program. Convenience stores use positioning strategies to increase buying and impulse buying.

Trust me. I don’t even give strippers my money. $10 I get at least a kiss. What say you?

I was think’n the same thing. A second banner over a few tables, “Catawba Modern” might attract additional buyers.

Lots of display styles increase traffic. Increase views will increase possible revenue of course. Display lighting, colors of displays, arrangement, ability to touch the item, cards giving product overview, etc.. Heck even animal balloons over the display in large rooms. Traffic flow is very important also. Never, ever be in that Hickory back room. When I went with friends they never ventured off the main ballrooom.

I was at a customer’s one day doing a repair. He said sales were off compared to other eateries around him. I told him to buy a fan and blow what is cooking into mall. Train their brain to desire what they need.

I was on the fence about going today but even before the corona craziness I had stopped going. I was tempted to see if I could trade a Vz2008 and some mags for something else but I'm glad I decided not to go. I only ever stop at one or two tables anyway. Gun shows have been over priced AR's, insanely high priced AK's, and useless junk for the last several years anyway. I've been to the one in Hickory 5-7 times now and it's meh. The one in Cabarrus county is probably the best one I've ever been too.
Was the gentleman with all of the Milsurp stuff there? The guys who lives in Granite Falls?

Agreed on my banner and table placement at this show. I know it hurt me. Can’t do much about it at this show. I’ve considered another banner and spacing the modern/ammo tables off my others. Haven’t done it yet.

Did sell some ARs today. Got a lot of “What is the best Sunday deal?” type questions. My reply was that the best Sunday deal was that I had the stuff at the same price as yesterday and last week and the best prices in the show. Worked sometimes. Sometimes it didn’t.

I did tell everyone to expect higher prices in the coming days and they should buy now. I will have no sympathy at the show next week.

While you’re in the mood to accept marketing advice, I believe a sartorial update might help move more modern merchandise. 🤓

I go to a lot of gun shows. Mostly as a vendor, but sometime as a visitor. Its a crap shoot for buyers and sellers. As a seller, things you just know will sell seem to come back home with you. Things I put in the case just as fillers or attraction pieces seem to fly off the shelf. Sure there is gouging by some, but for the most part, with what it cost to rent tables, the travel time and time spent setting up and shutting down, along with all of the people who waste your time making ridiculous offers, prices seem pretty fair to me at most shows. I tell people if you don't like the prices, you don't have to buy. Dealers are paying a lot more for ammo these days, so their prices will be higher. One advantage is at least most guns shows don't have a 1 box limit. In Myrtle Beach last weekend, I bought four Smith and Wesson Revolvers. 3 I gladly paid the asking price. One I haggled a little. I thought the vast majority of the Guns in Myrtle Beach were priced very reasonable considering the prices on the street as well as online. I personally did not see one new gun marked over retail.
