Relatively new to carrying and I’m trying to figure out what works best for me. I have a shield plus that I can comfortably carry aiwb. I also have a M&p 2.0 full size 4.25” and have ordered commander length 1911 and would like input on carrying the larger pistols. I have own kydex holster for both smiths that work well in colder weather, but I’m looking for a good carry solution for the 1911. Any and all feedback appreciated. Y’all have made me feel quite welcome here

Get the sturdiest gun belt you can find. For me, OWB leather pancake with a sweatshield, 3:30 - 4 o’clock, strong side. Extra mag carried OWB on support side for clearing malfunctions, and a little added balance.

Leather pancake OWB ~2:00. Spare mag in a horizontal carrier ~11:20. Sturdy leather gun belt. Sometimes another mag in a vertical carrier ~8:00.

How does that feel sitting/ driving?
Never had an issue. I carry either a G23 or a G21 in the same position.

Thanks for the responses. I’m looking for a leather option tha can go either iwb or owb. I found one but didn’t book mark the page… any suggestions?

Personally when it comes to conceal carrying full sized or anything that is just roided out compared to a compact style, dual/double clip holsters are a blessing. Leather for a solid hold but it's soft enough to not be uncomfortable even when sitting or driving. As far as positioning it would be a personal preference. I hate the idea of appendix carry because in some scenarios, like sitting, you are straight up flagging yourself, but I do it when I'm concealing my 45. It makes it invisible and fairly comfortable to where even when carrying large, you barely feel it if at all. Do what works for you.

+1 for the double clip. Anything full steel just carries so much better when its stabilized appropriately. I prefer them spaced out for that extra stability myself

IWB/OWB is garbage. You gotta pick the one you want the most and start there. Leather breaks into your carry position. And even if you carry both in the same position they will break in differently mounted to the inside or outside of the belt. That and adding and removing hardware just usually gets annoying when you want to put the holster on. I'm not a fan of dual purpose holsters. They tend to have to compromise things that a dedicated holster would not have too.

In that case I need a owb holster left hand for 4-5 o’clock.

I prefer the Kramer Belt Scabbard for OWB and the Milt Sparks Criterion for IWB. TT Gunleather also makes some quality holsters.

I haven’t tried anything from @chiefjason but it sounds like I should.

Tucker Gunlesther’s Deep Carry

AIWB all day long. JM custom holsters and mag carriers is all I use. Blue Alpha belts are my preference, but the wilderness tactical belts are also great. The longer the holster, the better.

my P09 and P30L are main pistols, occasionally the G17 still comes along.
