2016 Honda Accord, manual transmission. About a year and a half ago, backup camera stopped working and no reverse lights. Jumped the plug and everything worked fine so went to Honda for a new switch. It didn't work. Took it to our locally owned and operated shop and come to find out the new switch was bad. Put another Honda one and no problems, until yesterday. It is starting to act up again.

Do I go with another Honda one or try one from Napa or Rockauto?

Is the back up camera factory or aftermarket. How much amps it the camera drawing. The camera could be spiking the switch contact and burning them out. Is there a relay hooked in-between the switch and camera. If not you may need one

What's the OEM switch cost? How difficult is it to replace?

Aftermarket that switch if you want, no big deal. If it lasts, great. If not, you're no worse off than before. Go back to OEM afterwards, if this doesn't work out. Switch failures happen, and it's not unheard of for a new switch to occasionally fail, even with no failure track record.

Have you checked out any Honda forums due this problem? Might do so, if you haven't. You'd be amazed how many issues come up and are solved like this.

This is all good information, just another reminder of why being a supportive member is worth it.

It is a factory setup. I checked the connection this morning and it was a little loose. Put some dielectric grease on the connection because we are in a saltwater environment. Camera and back up lamps are working great.

Can bad bulb(s) cause a ramp up in current? I would like to check off everything I can before replacing the switch if it starts acting up again.

Looks like there are two different colors and part numbers/manufacturers for the switch. This information was however obtained without your VIN ymmv

It sounds like Honda isn't doing QC on their new switches if the new ones don't work too. If you can find a heavy duty one, use that. Other wise, do as 2ASteve suggested & change the gearbox lube. I'll bet it shifts easy then.
