Hey guys & gals, I wanted to reach out to the hive mind to see if anyone knows of a quality transmission shop or mechanic that can repair a transmission in a FWD 2013 CRV.

Long story short, the 2013 model year CRV is known to have a “bug” in the automatic transmission, it’s hard to articulate but the nuts & bolts of the issue is that the transmission causes the vehicle to shudder when it attempts to go into overdrive, if you apply more gas it will downshift and pull normally, until it tries to go back into overdrive.

I can use the button in the gear selector and turn off the “D3” (overdrive) and everything is fine until you get up to 50-60 mph where the RPMs get too high for highway speeds, so I’m fairly confident the transmission will have to pulled and cracked open in order to repair and/or replace a bad component.

I used a local Transmission shop for my 96 Accord back in the day but that cost me $2400-$2500 and I’m hoping like heck I will find someone cheaper.

Feel free to post suggestions in the thread, I’ll research a bit more in the meantime.

Thanks all!

I just went thru trans issues on my mom’s 2004 Honda odyssey. It seems like all the prices have gone crazy compared to what we used to know. I could not find any cheap places. I think the best you can hope for is a honest and competent place, but it’s still going to cost a lot.

Find some local transmission shops and ask them for quotes on a rebuild. However id be darn sure thats what it needed first. That is a well known issue with those Then go on-line and check prices for a new or rebuilt trans as sometimes a whole rebuilt unit can ne had for less. Weigh your options and choose whats best. Trans from a local salvage yard may be option as well

How many miles on the CRV?

It just rolled over 100k…. Which is absolutely nuts for a Honda auto trans issue, I read up on the issue and it’s fairly well known according to a Google search, the dealership wants $500 just to look at it, I’ve called a few dealerships asking about specific recall bulletins on the model year & trim of the car, they all tell me to bring it in and they’ll do an inspection, for $500… if they find any recalls they’ll handle them, then they’ll quote me an absurd amount to repair the issue I came in for, at least that’s been my experience with dealers.

It’s starting to sound like throwing the thing up and jackstands and poke a junkyard or rebuilt unit in it myself is going to be the best option, I “can” do it, but driveway rebuilds stopped in my late 30s, my back decided that way enough lol, I may be stupid, but saving $1500-$2000 is worth a couple of days in bed.

Have you checked your VIN for recalls?
See if you can get a remanufactured vs a rebuilt transmission from Honda. Ford wholesales them and I put them in my '99 Taurus and Sable myself.
