I am interested in recommendations for good hot (spicy) sauce.
Not the burn your brain and toes stuff that screws up your sight for weeks and makes you dread taking a dump.

We have the typical tobacco, Asian chili, and a green chili sauce. Also have some habanero, jalapeño, etc. peppers.

any recommendation?

Best one I've tried recently:

Pay no attention to the price, it is a dollar something at the store. Basically it is a chipotle style sauce but made with habaneros not jalapenos. Flavor is superior and it retains the fruitiness of the habanero.

Depends on what you’re putting on/in … and it also draws the loyalty by many like Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge vs Toyota vs …

Our general purpose hot sauce is Franks but then there are other bottle depending … Cholula, Tabasco Green, Sriracha and a couple others.

There is one that is a mustard related type for eastern BBQ lovers that is well worth trying … Professor Phardtpounders Colon Cleaner Hot Sauce … mustard meets a habanero pepper/vinegar hotsauce that goes great with pork stuff and even a couple drops stirred in regular yellow table mustard to bring it up a notch.

Also at Lowe's hardware I found these in the grilling aisle:

I've had the jalapeno/serrano verde. Also had the Moruga flavor. Don't let the moruga fool you, it is a very manageable heat.

We like this one due to the flavors it imparts while cooking or at the table. May not be quite as hot as some like it but it's my go to for most dishes. The neighborhood children that show up when my grands are visiting all ask for it and brag on the various dishes we cook with this sauce. From spaghetti sauce, taco meat, bbq pork, to almost anything else we have used this one without problems.

I've tried various types of Lousiana hot sauce but this particular brand fits at Casa Brangus.

I skip around and try other sauces in other locations when possible but this one will always be in our cabinets.

Crystal is probably the most balanced Louisiana style with flavor good like Franks and Texas Pete but also a decent amount of heat.

Can't help you there. My hot sauces border on attempted murder of taste buds.[emoji3][emoji2][emoji1][emoji16]

I screwed up today. I put the cold bottle of hot sauce in my cargo pants pocket when I went in for lunch. I failed to check the cap, it wasn’t tight and it leaked onto the pocket as it warmed up.
I now have a nice chemical burn going on.
Wear galoshes tonight. ;)

To purchase or recipes?
My current favorite, XXX Kutbil habanero.
I keep a bottle in the truck for when eating out.

I like the habanero sauces but LOVE any scotch Bonnett sauce.. local Walmart sells one a bit diluted but makes a bad ass barbecue sauce when mixed with mustard..
Before anyone knocks it, try it!! image.jpg

That’s the only thing Tabasco makes that tastes good.
Not a fan of Tabasco products in general, but their Scorpion Sauce is pretty good. Hotter than Carolina asphalt in August, but pretty good lol.

As to the OP, since we're talkin store bought, Im generally a fan of the stuff Ass Kickin Sauce makes. Their roasted garlic sauce is a habanero/cayenne base with a lot of flavor. Only need a few drops...

Who sells it?

Talkin bout the Ass Kickin Sauce? Honestly dont know, I usually order it from somewhere. Wifey does most all the grocery shoppin and I just do small quick trips for specific items so I never really paid attention.

Not a sauce but Allegro Marinades have always been a favorite of mine. I’ll even baste a steak with it on the bbq if I failed to let it soak overnight. They have a hot and spicy version, although I prefer the original.

I'll look for it! I have yet to try any of the Scotch Bonnet concoctions. Might become a favorite,, being milder and more flavorful than habanero so it can be applied more liberally.

"Best" is such a loaded word, if only because it's so highly subjective.

What do you value in a hot sauce? The burn? What kind of burn, slow, searing, mild? What about flavor? Smoky, fruity, sweet, salty, lime, etc.?

I like your sauces, but they have to have flavor. If it's so hot I can't enjoy the flavor, then I'm not interested.

Chipotle Tabasco has an awesome smoky flavor. So does Cholula. El Yucateco Black had its own unique smoky flavor.

In fact, chipotle style hot sauces have picked up and many different brands can be found.

I also like variety. Not only because some hot sauces go better with some things, but because I simply like variety. I have about a dozen different hot sauces at work because of this.

My favorite on eggs for years now has been Chipotle Tabasco. I've discovered El Yucateco Black adds a nice flavor to a bowl of my homemade chili.

I'm open to something different when I see it.

Scotch Bonnets are hotter, fruitier habaneros. Not cooler.

I’ve got so e Scorpion ready to augment my custom wings sauce a bit. Also will have some milder wings and some Caribbean Jerk. It’s cheating, but it’s very good.

That B Dubs Caribbean Jerk sauce is on point. Really, really good.

I’ve made my own, but it is never as good. And since nobody else around here likes it it isn’t worth the effort of making it from scratch. So I pour from the bottle.

I had never had it until the last time I deployed. A coworkers family sent him box after box of nothing but different sauces.
I found the Tabasco Scorpion, several different Ass Kickin sauces, that B Dubs Jerk, and Wickers marinade which doubled as a vinegar sauce when they had bbq pork.
We probably had 60 or 70 different ones, but those were my favorites

*IF* you can find it, Valentina is the best hot sauce I've ever tasted, and I've tried just about all of them. Its comes in normal and extra hot. Both have a good, but not overpowering amount of heat, and a good, smokey serano chilli flavor. Try it, and you won't mess with any of the American brands again.

Best of all, since its a Mexican sauce, and not very big in the US, its dirt cheap. You can get a 1-liter bottle of it for 2-3 bucks at Walmart when its in stock.

I haven't been able to find it locally for about a year now (thanks Covid) So I order it on amazon by the gallon.

Yellowbird.
Their sirracha is far better than the original.
The habanero is my everyday go-to and the ghost pepper sauce will add next level heat without burning your face off

That's good stuff & a large part of the base of my jerky marinade. Mexicans put it on their pork rinds, but it don't suck on eggs or biscuits & gravy, neither.

This stuff is killer, but kinda hard to find in the US. They're all good, especially the black & the red, but the green & the yellow will make yer eyelids sweat. I was turned on to it by a coworker who brought some back from Mexico.

Here’s what’s in my fridge or cabinet, mostly mild to medium hot in this current set.

for something a little different I would go for these , the yellow Venezuelan style

and the first, 3rd and 4th pictured below (haven’t tried the second yet)

Speedys you can find locally, the three from the left side are part of a kit from Heatonist (hot ones)
