This video helps put it into perspective:

Would love to see him do the Saturn V and the Space Shuttle. You get a good feeling for the shuttle’s ET and SRBs at Kennedy Space Center in front of the Atlantis exhibit. Oddly enough, when you go in to see Atlantis, its smaller than I imagined as a kid. Crazy to think 7 people would spend 1-2 week’s coupled up in its cabin!

Looking at the pods the early astronauts orbited is in insane, they were tiny. How did they manage to do...well...ANYTHING in there?
But very cool stuff, and cool video!

I thought the same thing when touring a WW2 submarine. Unreal how small they are. The racks in the torpedo room had insanely little room above them. Would take a skinny little guy who never tried to sit up at night to sleep in them.

I saw the Hunley right after they brought it up. The hatch was so small I could only fit one of my legs through it.

I contortioned my way through the Clamagore down at Patriots Point Charleston, SC. No way in this world I'd spend much time down there. I don't think there was anywhere on that thing I could actually stand up straight or lie down. Extremely tight quarters. Big kudos to those who can work and live in those environments.

BTDT, thought the same thing. Also spent the night bunking on the Yorktown with a Cub Scout group. Had to slide into the bunk. The upper bunk was only about a foot from my face. Tight! Father-in-law came with us, because he had served on a sister ship.

There is a replica that comes to Thomasville once a year (at least), parked in the Walmart parking lot prior to Memorial Day parade.
Seeing it up close, as well as diagrams on how the men inside were positioned, is nuts. Such a small submersible that, somehow, half a dozen men fit inside.
