How many guns?

I have first hand knowledge of only one person that owns more than 5 guns. I’m guessing that I know people with more, but I don’t know that they do...and I generally haven’t asked.

OK, how about a more general question...

Would 25 be considered alot for a typical gun guy? How about 50? 75? 100? 150? I'm just trying to see what your opinion is.

depends on who you ask and their motivation
If the news wants to destroy your reputation, a 12ga, a 9mm, and grandpappy's old 20ga is considered an arsenal. To gun people, that's not enough for a round of 3gun..
50 is more than enough to cover an "need" for hunting, home defense, sport, and carry... but i've been told that 50 is not all that hard to hit if you're lucky enough to not need to sell off old guns. If you have enough disposable income to buy a few a year, you'll get there.
And then there are those fellas here who try to "collect" their favorite brand. And some brands have been running a couple models a year for decades, or over 100 years...

but to answer that more general question - i wouldn't consider any of those a lot. I would consider those numbers to be indicative of somebody who has an expensive hobby.

I, personally, wouldnt consider 25 a lot.
Grab a couple ARs, a couple shotguns, a couple hunting rifles, a couple 22 rifles, a couple 9mm/45s...and, boom! Youre nearly halfway there without really trying.

Guns? Or firearms?

Asking because silencers count as one of those, but not the other. And lots of us would have to recount depending on the answer. 😎

This has more to do with disposable income and level of enthusiasm than how one percieves an arbitrary number. But ok, 100 is a lot of guns. why? because I can't afford that many.

look into bulk purchases of rusty old receivers for a couple dollars per on gunbroker. it's fun to say you bought a dozen guns through an online auction at once. You probably wouldn't want to fire any of them, even IF you could find the parts to rebuild them... but still...
there's something fun about a pro-gun FFL attaching a second sheet to document purchase of something like "no make listed" "no serial number"

The number of firearms a gun enthusiast wishes to own can be represented by a simple formula

N+1

Where N is the current number of firearms he or she currently owns.

But really there isn't a solid number. In my head you maybe should slow down buying (not stopping) when you find guns you forgot you owned... To me it's a hobby I want to share with friends. This means letting people borrow guns to get a cc license or try that new hotness be it a trigger you isntalled or a gun you got on a deal that just released.

And ontop of that. 6 loaded mags per handgun minimum... I prefer more.

25 is eh, 50 you're starting to have fun. 75 and I hope we are friends, if you have 100 I hope you're my neighbor. 125 I hope I'm on your trust. 150 I hope youre gay because i'm getting down on one knee. I'm ready for a thrupple.

Some smart azz is gonna come along and say something like:

I want 12 guns worth, please
😂

But, Im not sure which of us degenerates its gonna be 🤔

I think I'm the degenerate. Mostly everyone here is a recovering addict... I'm still whoring out to get more.

A squanch for another cz? Don't mind if I do

I'm curious about how many guns owned by 'gun guys' that you know. What is a typical number for a guy that is into guns? And a number for the guy that owns the most guns of anyone you know.

Not today, ATF....not today ;)

Nice try, sneaky bastards!

I know a guy who has one gun, a pistol, but probably shoots 20,000 rounds a year. I know a guy who owns an arsenal, probably more than 50 but less than 100. He shoots the same dozen, the rest collect dust.

3

1 shotgun cause Joe said it was ok.

1 small marshmallow gun to draw in the squirrels.

1 .177 pellet gun for squirrel cook outs.

I'd like to add one of the bug assaults for those really bad days in the summer. Flies really like my squirrels for some reason.

Now we have some reasonable responses. That gives me an idea anyway. I wish I hadn't asked. Now I feel like I need to buy more! Although, I'm at a point that I am tending toward the more expensive stuff, not about the numbers. I've always thought it was crazy to spend XX on any gun. Now I'm thinking about it. And also am thinking the guys that buy and sell might be smarter than I am. You get to try it out, then keep what you like the best. I've never sold much.

Agreed that we all probably tend to shoot the ones we like best, and the rest just sit. But I do try to shoot all of them at least once/year. Mainly so I can clean and oil them at least that often.

The first expensive gun will hurt, the second one will hurt less, then you go to your cheap guns and start putting money into them to make them expensive. Then it won't matter all that much. I think about my cz with a pro package and say dang that was expensive. Then I ponder and say well it was only half my ar....

Basically thinking down the above line add in a couple of other family member guns (your wife’s EDC and kid’s trainers) also along with one or two heirloom ones and you’re even closer.

The challenges in the question are, it's a) a private question for a lot of people, b) we don't know who is lurking or reading the responses, and c) there is risk in putting the info out there in cyberspace.

I’ll throw this out there cause I think it’s interesting. I know of someone who had zero less than 2 years ago and now has over 25 and about 15k rounds. He needed a hobby I think.
