It's about time for me to get a floor jack again. Borrowing one a few times was acceptable, but it's becoming a habit.

I've owned two, both were el cheapo things and neither failed me, they were given away before various moves.

Other than making sure I get one that's got enough arm movement to actually lift the truck tires off the ground, what else should I consider before spending more than the absolute minimum on another jack (and some stands)?

I'm not pulling transmissions or anything here, just going to go back to doing my own oil changes, tire rotations, brake pads, etc.

My view, the stands are more important than the jack...dont cheap out on those.

The daytona jacks from hf are decent for the money, the 4T did just fine on my truck.

For what you want to do, I would go this route all day, every day

like this one (but a 3T model obviously):

Seems like the extra $10 for the low profile version is a good spend, the cars seem to have pretty low front bumpers I can see being damaged by carelessness.

Those are the ones, supposedly snap-on clones. A 3T will do just about anything you need, and most of the time that's what i use (have a craftsman my wife got me when we got married).

3T is fine for basically anything other than a rv or truck/trailer with a heavy load on it. You may have to push a little harder if you get something with a heavy motor.

I love my 1.5T aluminum floor jack for whatever it works for. 3/4T truck is pushing it and it's barely high enough. It rolls much nicer and is easier to place and, obviously, transport than the 3T.

3T's a HF the other is some auto parts house brand, duralast maybe. They've been used quite a bit, the alloy abused, still working, I don't leave loads on them for long periods.
