How to Seal Foods Air-Free Without a Vacuum Sealer

I’ve done that before. It mostly works. I used that method once when I decided to try to sous vide some meat with the insta pot. It worked well enough. It would certainly help prevent freezer burn.

All that being said, last Xmas we gave my has everything, “prepper” but really a hoarder mother a vacuum sealer that she couldn’t remember (Alzheimer’s) getting even after we located it.

Today, I splurged and picked up one of the $9.99 per pound bone in ribeye roasts others have mentioned in another thread. While not cheap, it’s a nice piece of meat for not much more than they’re asking for ground beef these days.

I sealed it up in the vacuum sealer and my plan is to sous vide it in the instant pot to a medium rare fore several hours and then sear it and have rib roast for new years.

I have done the freezer bag in water trick before and it works well. Certainly much better than the just close it alternative.
