Which means you can eliminate the passenger compartment altogether and make cargo/delivery bots.

There is no such thing as "autonomous cars." They will be gov't controlled cars. Gov't will set the limits on where and when these cars can drive. They will not be usable in any RF dead zone. The license fees to use these vehicles (ownership won't be allowed) will be such that only the wealthy and ruling c;ass can afford them. The masses won't have access to anything more than a rationed Uber type rides. Most travel for the masses will be heavily controlled.
