Just wondering if anyone on the forum does any painting with an hvlp spray gun and lacquer based paint. I'm using a Fuji Q5 Platinum system spraying Gemini Pre cat lacquer. My biggest hassle is cleanup. Just wondering about using an ultrasonic cleaner and is it safe to use with lacquer thinner ? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I clean my gravity fed HVLP spray guns all the time in an ultrasonic cleaner. It works great. Typically I’m using cotton spindle oil as a solvent.

Yes.

Cotton spindle oil is a great cleaner that I use around the farm. It works great mixed into the lube tank on my sawmill, and I’ve been using it in an ultrasonic cleaner for around 3 years.

The last time that I cleaned my spray gun I had shot alkyd enamel with a hardener. Forgot to clean it for a couple of weeks and 30 minutes in the ultrasonic cleaner had it looking like new.

I don't think it's a good practice to clean any aluminum parts in an USC. I've always soaked the parts in a container of lacquer thinner and everything cleans up nicely.

Buy the cheaper "cleaner grade" thinner for this purpose.
