I received a message last night that has stunned me. Something unexpected and totally out of the blue. I have a first cousin who lost his oldest son last night. Details at this point are scarce.

The info I have at the moment is that there was a bbq at his son's house and apparently he became choked on his food and unfortunately they could not save him.

Please pray for his family in this dark hour.

Parents should not have to bury their children.

Both of my parents were born in the early 20s. There were nine SURVIVING siblings on each side. Infant mortality "back in those days" was...not good. Mom told the story of an infant sibling who quite literally died in her arms. Sometimes it amazes me that so many people made it past the toddler stage in those times.

And then hard working times, often in dangerous jobs, not to mention the various issues with cancer and heart disease that we know a lot more about these days, claimed more...at times before my grandparents passed away.

We take a lot for granted these days, not realizing that we're really only a single page of history past those times.

Take care of yourself. Take care of your families. And enjoy the time you have with them. Our days are numbered...and only the Lord knows what that number is.

Amen. Best to live life as if we know what that number is and the number is 1 for we are not promised nor guaranteed tomorrow. We only have today.
