So now that I have ordered me a S&P 4.25" more full size gun (and assuming that I like the way it shoots) I can relegate my previous carry gun (XDSC 3") to backup role. Question is do switch it to crossdraw on the left or regular draw (left hand draw). Opinions?

Uhmn...come on guys, let me have your thoughts!

LoL. I'd consider left hand draw. If you have to use your BUG, it means that you may have gotten hurt on your strong hand side. If you set it up for cross draw you'll be at a disadvantage if your right arm is not working well.

I have a handgun quickly available for each hand when I carry two. I am carrying two more and more these days. I generally have one in my right pocket and one on my left hip.

That was my initial thought as well. The other consideration would be a malfunction on the main gun that can't be cleared quickly but I suppose all things considered that is probably less likely.

... are like posterior ejection ports; everybody's got one. So, I'll answer your question with a question with an answer attached.

Do you drill regularly with your off hand? If yes, buy an off hand holster for your backup. If no, buy a cross draw. (Or change your training routine. ;) )

I am ashamed to say that between sick dogs and vet bills and my regular range being an hours drive away I don't get to practice a whole lot. So to answer your question I do not regularly shoot with my off hand so I guess crossdraw it is. Thanks for suggesting that.

Now I'm just curious because I don't carry a backup gun (which may be stupid) but anyway do y'all carry backup mags also for the primary or backup?

2 spares for the EDC was always the way I roll. Once I move the sub compact to backup gun it will be the same for the main gun but no extra mags for the backup. My waist size is 32 and I have zero real estate left for any other gear as it is. I will admit I probably won't need the BUG ever but better to have it and not need it. Plus 2 guns just looks cool, chuckle.

How are you carrying the 2 spares? My jelly rolls don't seem to agree with iwb mag carriers. I've just been rocking a 19 rounder in my left pocket. My backup after that magazine is throwing a very expensive cz at them and running away

I use a 2.5" Bianchi Accumold duty belt, everything is OWB. I know it's a bit overkill but I just like the rock solid way it carries.

Horizontal (OWB) mag carriers are my preference.

Backup mag is on the belt in a leatherman tool pouch. No need to conceal it from view if you live around a bunch of ninnys and it's not an obvious "shoot me first" tell .
