Why do pawnshops and gun stores not teach their employees about laws in nc ?i had a guy at a store tell me I couldn’t legally buy an ar15 at 18(keep in mind it was a rifle not pistol ) and he wouldn’t sell me it ,but he’d sell me a shotgun or a hunting rifle ???god people are so stupid…he kept going on and on about how there’s specific laws for the ar15 and I couldn’t buy one till I was 21

Name and shame. I don't wanna buy from fudds by accident
Also went to pawn shop on e cone and they’re real pos ,tried to sell me a m&p15 for 850 used … and then offered me 10% off like that meant something, and their ammo prices are absolutely ridiculous they was selling 100 round boxes of 556 for 150

Pawn shops can be really hit and miss. I used to like the national pawn in Durham beacuse they bought guns at ever location in the city and sold them all at one so there was always a lot. Haven't been post latest panic. So many Crack heads the police had a booth inside the shop.

ask around and see if anybody in your area has a spare set of receivers you can buy from them
lots of folks here have more than they can use

Here’s a possible twist for ya @Alex that might have messed up the pawn shop employee … legally you can’t buy a striped AR receiver if you are under 21 ... but you are correct in that you should be able to buy a complete AR. Also nobody can buy a receiver outside of their home state from an FFL without it going thru an FFL back in the buyer’s home state but you can buy a complete AR (per state laws). It all has to to with the little box the FFL checks on “type of firearm” … “handgun (receive, frame, etc)” , “long gun (rifle or shotgun)” or “other firearm” … and how “receivers” are handled under the “other firearm” and limited age and resident restriction.

I could not buy just a stripped AR receiver from PSA for a build when driving thru SC but I could buy a complete AR, mag and ammo and walk out of the store ready to rock … make perfect Democratic sense

…from an FFL.

Just making sure that part was clear.

What Scary says is what I would do. Order a rifle kit from a company like Delton and look for a lower or even build your own 80% lower. Don't take me long to get wore out on gunshops.

Some dealers (maybe Walmart did it? Not sure about Academy) made their own rules about not selling MSRs to 18-20 year olds.

Same way some dealers say you have to have a PPP/CHP to buy an AR lower.

Neither are state law…but both could be store policy.

This is the first time I’ve ever dealt with these kinds of people at the stores.usually it’s just people trying to sell me shit I don’t need at a ridiculous price .i’m thinking about buying a rifle kit and making my own arp but I have 0 experience with making a 80% .

Academy is fine ,bought plenty of rifles there.

I think you’re right about Walmart and I think Dick’s did not sell ‘em to people under 21 before they stopped selling them completely. I also think Field & Stream may have followed since they are Dick’s also.

Probably someone in your neighborhood has the tools. Just have to stay in the legal limits there also. Built my first AR from used parts back in the 70's, still have that old rifle. No internet to help back then, took me over a year with trial and error and asking a hundred questions.

What’s confusing is they had no problem selling me a rifle, just not an ar style rifle…and said it was the law.

There are stupid people everywhere. That’s life.
Yup especially at academy ,always get id’d for pistol ammo and I hand them my id anyways but they never look at the age i guess …even made me take my hood off and everything to verify it was me in the id

Eh I don’t have to worry about that ,already had my fair share of experiences with alcohol to know it’s definitely not for me

I didn't get carded at 16 when I went to the liquor store... I hate to think how old I look now. I'm gonna look 150 by the time I'm 60

C’mon man, they only do that when they’re flirting with you. My wife appreciates it, you should too.

Funny how I've never been escorted out of any other gun stores. Guess they have watched Terminator too many times.

Kmart had end caps full of 7.5 and 8 shotshells. The #6 was in the glass case. After I waited 5 minutes for them to find the keys the dork told me I couldn't put it in my cart; they had to walk it up to the register because it was in the case. . . . .

I told them I wasn't done shopping so they could follow me around until I was or put it in my cart. I started shopping while they followed me to argue; just happened across the manager.

After explaining what was up he took the shells from the dork, told them it was in the case because the 2 end caps were full, handed them to me and sent dork off to unload a truck.

Sheesh. No wonder they went under.

A k when I would up from Walmart, I had a kid from the electronic department tell me the I couldn’t buy 9mm ammo after 9pm because it was “state law”.

I think a lot of these stores have their own policies and then the sales associates getting paid $8/hr don't know any better and just try to feed the customer some line. Saying it's "the law" probably just makes sense in their state-educated brain.

I can't think of a single LGS I've been to in the last decade I'd want to spend money at. Online shops have better prices and better service than anywhere else I've seen. Sad, but it's the truth. I ain't paying $35 for a PMAG or $800 for a G19, sorry.

Had some new kid at the food lion card me and when he said id card please, i just put my credit card in the machine. He had to repeat himself bc i was so used to just ignoring their small talk and paying. Old lady in line behind me laughed when i admitted i wasn't listening to him.
