If you could only have one fishing lure for all of your fishing adventures … what would it be???

For me it would be a Zman 3” paddle tail (electric chicken color) on a 1/4oz trout eye jig head. I am fairly sure that lure set up will catch every fish on the planet! I have caught fresh and salt water fish on it.. ranging from red drum, blues, grey trout, speckled trout, flounder, Black Sea bass, ribbon fish, large mouth bass, stripped bass, catfish, white perch, crappie… you name it!

For catching in any condition, chatterbait.

For prime time topwater and BIG bass. 5/8oz jointed black jitterbug.

VooDoo shrimp, everything eats shrimp.
This is a great one for sure! I use these, along with Zman elaztech shrimp and Betts Lures Billy Bay Perfect Sinker shrimp. The perfect sinker shrimp (clear color) quick soaked in Spike It chartreuse dye is a deadly winter bait for speckled trout. Let it sink with a pop pop pause action.. and you will get this (from past February)…

Gulp 3” shrimp, can’t count the number of species caught, it’s actually shocking
shrimp profile plus scent, some call it fish crack
I really like gulp baits! If the dang tail biters would leave them alone, it would be the top choice bait for me (penny / copper shrimp w chartreuse tail!) I only switched to Zman elaztech due to durability.

small black jitterbug on a Daiwa mini-cast; right about dark after a light rain. Slip down to the pond and pitch it about 6 ft out from the bank and do a slow retrieve, stop, and bam.
Bam is right! Nothing like a big ol bass exploding on top water in early morning light or at dusk. It’s so calm out at those times and it will damn near startle you when they hit! I’m with you on jitter bugs.. great bait!. At these times I also like to use hula poppers and devil horses.

I have to pick a color?
Paddle tail on a jig head is a solid choice, I'd probably go pearly translucent/slam shady color.
Also runs would be red/white mepps inline #1,
BBB limit maker in easy money on a drop shot.

Agreed! Slam shady is a great color too! I’ve also had good success with sexy mullet, the deal, mulletron, opening night and lime pearl.

Appreciate all the replies! I’m an avid fisherman and I sometimes pigeon hole myself to certain lures / baits (because they do work for me..). It’s good to get feedback and to see what others are using and what folks believe in when they get time on the water… as you all know some days / places, there are baits that work better than others. Certainly helps to know what to grab when going down the lure isle where most of the lures there are great for catching fishermen and no so good at catching fish!

for saltwater... Original Clarkspoon

Clarkspoons are awesome (and based out of Morehead City, NC). They are a complete nightmare for Spanish Mackerel. Short story: Had a bet with a buddy from NY. He said his umbrella rig set up with tubes and one set up with Hopkins spoons would catch more than my Clarkspoon trolling set up. Caught one on his set ups (which I admit, those rigs slay the striped bass in NY waters) and we finished out a two man Spanish limit with my Clarkspoons!

I‘m with @Tailhunter. I’d take a 3/8 oz jig. Either black/blue or maybe brown/orange. I only bass fish so I could cover a lot of water and situations with that. A close second would probably be a 4-5” Senko. But those are soft and get torn up pretty quickly.

I wanted this to be my answer but I'm relatively new to halfway serious fishing. I haven't really learned how to fish a jig yet. What I've had the most success with is a green pumpkin #297 Yamamoto Senko Texas rig or a Nikko Hellgramite.

IMO, the key to jig fishing is usually less is more. Slow and even dead sticking jigs works really well. My brother is a better jig fisherman than me since he can slow it way down. And it probably also depends on the body of water and the forage. So your experiences may be different.
