I'm really glad I quit flying United years ago

Delta may be on my sh*t list shortly. Going to try and change a return flight...
I do my damnedest to not fly delta. I despise ATL and will avoid it if possible even if it adds hours to a trip.
Delta just upgraded the amount of money they will offer to people to give up their seats on overbooked flights in response to the United fiasco. They will now offer up to $9950.00.

Seriously. No idea why they didn't make it an even ten.

Delta may be bad, but they ain't stupid.

Seriously. No idea why they didn't make it an even 10000.

Banking laws require that if the amount is $10,000 or more it has to be reported to the Feds.

I thought the money they offer is in airline vouchers. They're not actually giving people cash money (or check money) are they?

Well I will say that while I was not happy with the incredible amount of money that Delta wanted to change our flight, the customer service experience was outstanding. In fact the young lady told me to call back Sunday evening and if there were still seats available that the price to change the flight should drop dramatically.

Talk to me. I'm flying through there the end of next month.
Always crazy busy there, and if I were flying through your be screwed too. Something is always bound to eff up if I'm flying delta. You shouldn't have to worry I'm driving to the next few places, and may even ride the bike down to Atlanta tomorrow, we'll see how I feel in the morning.

The wife says that Delta gives you gift cards.

I ain't flown in over ten years. So don't ask me.

The article reads as if it's cash but never says it. I'm sure the situation would have to be extreme for someone to be offered nearly ten grand anyway.

Interesting. Well the flight up to NY wasn't bad but we didn't have to change planes...

ATL is the worst airport in my opinion that we have. That includes newark which sucks pretty bad.

Funny, I've always liked ATL over Char-Meck- easier to move between terminals, better places to eat and drink, despite the crowds.
CM always pissed me off having to go from E to A or B, mostly because it was hell on my knees.
LAX always seems dirty, PHX is nice, Reagan was ok and DFW wasn't bad but the only place to lose my bags....

Never had any lost luggage in ATL, CLT, DTW, or PHX. Phoenix ticket agent did force me to pay ~$300 extra to bring my guns back home, a fee that was a meager $35 on departure. American Airlines employees are some exploitive pricks.

I'm going from Myrtle Beach to Texas in June and I chose American so I could change planes in Charlotte instead of Atlanta.

I fly AA about 98% of the time, from RDU most stuff is nonstop to most my destinations. If there is a layover I try and take Dallas most times but Chicago in the summer may avoid some bad weather if needed. Miami is another hub, and that's always good if going anywhere really south.

There was one year I was on the road for 40 weeks. I had made executive platinum on American AND gold medallion on delta at the same time. I don't think I'd survive another year like that. Thank god for webex...

Just got back from an 11000 mile round trip on Delta... no complaints, other than JFK airport is a dump and the federal security employees were rude and ignorant .

Everything was on time and as promised/threatened.

The airlines gamble on last minute cancellations.

When they guess wrong, they provide a paltry fee, or physically drag you off the airlines.

Either way, THEY win and their paying customers pay for the fact that the airlines guessed wrong by being refused the product that they'd contracted to purchase and which they'd paid for. In the case of United, they might rough you up some too.

This seems fair to anyone?

That's what I'm trying to understand. I'm not going to blame the airline. Could have been replacement pilots for elsewhere that were needed. Flights get cancelled more than a lot of people know due to pilot's hours being restricted.

None of which matters.

If United screwed up and didn't have pilots where they needed to be, they should offer someone $5k cash to give up a seat , or whatever it takes to make good on the mistake THEY made.

You don't have goons drag a paying customer off the plane after YOU, the airlines, have royally screwed the pooch.

I rarely fly, last time was over 6 years ago. This time I'll be checking a firearm. I've already done some research and I'm foolishly hoping for everything to go smoothly.

Print out the airline and TSA regs. Go with the exact written process. If they give you any lip, pull out one the 7+ copies you made and hand it to whoever is being the dipshit and don't say a word. Wait to see if they CAN read, and if they CAN, than it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Although, if they can't read, you might be screwed and please take pics or video before you get thrown in the little room with no windows.

I'll wear a CFF shirt just in case.

And if you're going out of RDU, ignore the "no firearms" signs on the approach road.

Just flew with AA and as far as checked firearms are concerned, it's not too bad.

#1. They will be grateful to you if you can itemize a list for them complete with manufacturer, SN, and generic description; ie. Colt 1991A1 - SN: 01234567 - Pistol

#2. The TSA is going to want a gander at your checked firearm case at minimum, possibly at each item maximum. They will want you to assert that they're unloaded, and they (TSA) may confirm that they are.

#3. If the total dimensions (Length + Width + Height) of your checked baggage exceeds 62 inches, it's going to cost you $235 extra to fly with it, and if it's 51 lbs or more, tack on at least $100, $200 if it's between 71 - 100lbs.

I say all that because AA only charged me $35 baggage fees to fly from CLT to PHX, but then I had to pay a $325 ransom to get the exact same luggage back from PHX to CLT.

#4. Do NOT use "TSA Approved" locks. Invest in a quality disk lock, Abus is a good one, and use it.

I put the gun in a small lockbox inside if my hardsided Pelican case wi h Abloy locks in it. Last time the TSA goon questioned why I didn't just put it in the lock box and leave the big case unlocked o_O.

I replied, "would if you call that secure? I certainly wouldn't." He didn't say any more about it.

There was no change in your luggage between the two flights?

So, if I stay below those dimensions and weight the cost will stay at $35?

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I heard this morning that the "fine print" that some in this forum used to justify this forcible removal and condemn the old man does NOT provide for removal of boarded passengers who are not posing a threat, causing a disturbance, etc.

In other words, the fine print of the contract entered into to obtain a seat on that flight permits denial of boarding, but it does NOT permit removal of a passenger once he/she has boarded unless that passenger poses a threat, causes a disturbance, etc.

That concussion, broken nose, broken teeth, etc., are going to pay off "big league"!

I recall reading that the mice type applies in an overbooked condition, which this wasn't; they just wanted to move done employees, but it wasn't overbooked. It was just full, which is further support to the notion that they were in error per their ultimatum, er I mean agreed upon contract.

As it should, but the cost should be born by the shareholders and corporate executives who will just pass it on to us, the customer.

None whatsoever.

It's also dependent on the order in which you check multiple bags, but if you've just got a carry-on bag and your checked guns, yes, it should be $35.

I was changing flights in Houston. I got off an A320 and got right back on another A320. All I had was a carry on. The gate agent stopped me and said I had to check my bag because it wouldn't fit. I told her it fit on the A320 I just got off of. She didn't like that too much and copped an attitude real quick. Needless to say, I had to gate check my bag. I forget what airline it was, probably was AA.

With AA, gate checking is supposed to be free, but they'll do everything they can to catch you at the ticket desk and make you pay.

I can't remember the last time I checked luggage. I live out of my carry-on but have had to gate check it a couple times for small planes. No biggie

There is talk that United may pay ~$20-30mm to make this go away.

Their 'solution' of requiring flight staff to arrive at the gate 60min prior to departure is bound to run into difficulties. They'd be better served to go w/ Delta's solution of allowing staff to pay up to ~$10k to buy someone out of their seat (and obviously they will usually be able to buy out passengers at much lower prices).

Well I will have to say that our flight out of LaGuardia back to Greensboro went off without a hitch. Had one of the nicest flight attendants that I've every flown with. Delta would NOT allow me to change to a later flight without paying a horrendous amount of money so I said "Screw 'em!" and stayed with the 10:15 flight.

Evidently Uncle Joe Biden made some kind of disparaging comment about LaGuardia at some point because now there is construction everywhere! But it was early enough when we got there that we didn't hit a backup until we turned into the airport.

It remains to be seen what I find in Atlanta the end of May...

Holy crap! United is trying to go under..

United Airlines Kicks Couple Off Plane En Route to Their Wedding
April 16, 2017

It’s been a bad week for United Airlines. After a video of a passenger being violently removed from a plane by police went viral, you’d think the airline would be trying to stay out of the headlines.
In the latest passenger-PR nightmare, a couple flying United to their destination wedding in Costa Rica were booted from their plane on Saturday. Michael Hohl and Amber Maxwell were traveling with family and friends when confusion over seating landed them back in the terminal." data-reactid="42" style="margin-bottom: 1em;">In the latest passenger-PR nightmare, a couple flying United to their destination wedding in Costa Rica were booted from their plane on Saturday. Michael Hohl and Amber Maxwell were traveling with family and friends when confusion over seating landed them back in the terminal.

The wedding, planned for Thursday, will still happen, but the couple are — quite understandably — not happy with how United handled the situation. “We thought not a big deal, it’s not like we are trying to jump up into a first-class seat,” Hohl told News13, an ABC affiliate. “We were simply in an economy row a few rows above our economy seat.”

The couple had flown into Houston from Salt Lake City. After a layover at George Bush Intercontinental airport, they boarded United Flight 1737 bound for Liberia, Costa Rica. When they went to sit down, they found a man stretched out and sleeping in their row."

According to the couple, they jumped up a few rows on the mostly empty plane and didn’t think much of it. When a flight attendant asked them why they weren’t in their assigned seats, the trouble started."

The airline and the couple have two different versions of events. According to the couple, they tried to explain there was someone sleeping in their assigned seats. Even after they complied with the flight crew and woke the sleeping man, an air marshal approached them and told them they had to get off the plane."

United Airlines in a statement said: “We’re disappointed anytime a customer has an experience that doesn’t measure up to their expectations. These passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seating, which they did not purchase, and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats. We’ve been in touch with them and have rebooked them on flights tomorrow.”

Hohl and Maxwell deny they were being disorderly. “I think customer service and the airlines have gone real downhill,” said Hohl. “The way United Airlines handled this was really absurd.”

The stepfather of the bride to be, Michael Gallagher, told KUTV 2News Utah in an interview: “Truthfully, we all worried that maybe something would happen in Costa Rica, and we were willing to deal with that. Never in our wildest dreams did we think United was going to screw it up in Houston, Texas.”

UA says that no marshall was involved

who knows

But this is much different than the Doc - that guy was forced to give up his seat for an employee
These were hopping in more expensive seats.

Just from what I read earlier

We fly out with UA on Saturday. Got to pull out the vest and Kevlar helmet to get ready.....
