Is the .40 S&W going to return?

I’m surprised Dormer isn’t seen as some sort of hero around here, like the KillDozer guy seems to be.

Huh? He ain't? Maybe I ought to keep my mouth shut then.

I mean in that situation, if the old ladies had been male, black, in a grey Nissan, at least acorn boy could have had some justification saying he heard a suppressed pistol shot.

Course that one likely would have made his knees go weak for a reason.

Reactions: Me.
I hope the .40 is not going any where, that's all I carry and is my go to caliber for everything. Yes, my pistol skills are like my putting... they both suck.

But.. the .40 usually has more energy than a .45 and 9mm. I like energy and that is why I have more than enough .40s.

I have my 9mm's but they are safe queens. I will admit that the .40 feels different than the 9mm... it doesn't flip the muzzle as much as my 9's. (But that could be my inadequacy with a pistol)

Everyone, I have some clarification on the price I mentioned in my OP. What he did not tell me was this ammo was traded in by agencies who switched to 9mm and the price he mentioned to me was them trying to sell it to other agencies. Not individuals or or individual officers. My apologies for getting everyone excited. Since I was not representing a LE agency, I wrongfully assumed the price was open to everyone.

Drew Ursin used to teach the armorers course for Beretta and every course I attended, having only a hs diploma and in his typical no holds barred language, he would use a white board or chalkboard to show - mathematically - how the .40 S&W was another solution to problem that never existed …
I'd love to hear his reasoning. Often when I hear that phrase "a solution to a problem that never existed" I find it's based in no small part on personal opinion.

When you go up in size/power you go also go up in recoil and down in capacity, and 40 is no different than 9 and 45 in that regard. What's wrong with a mid range option?

A unique advantage 40 has over the other two is that it has a big brother caliber you can use for a host gun and be able to shoot 2 different calibers with no change of barrels, mags, or anything else.

I just got home from qualifying on my new G23 Gen 5 and it is a shooter! I'm a decent shot but I shot better groups with this gun than my others (my duty G22, off duty G43X, etc.) I think the new Gen 5 gun (Gen 5 trigger, "Marksman" barrel, heavier weight) is all better, and I also got the model with the Ameriglo Bold sights from the factory. My duty gun wears the coarse thick standard Glock Night Sights, all my personal Glocks wear Trijicon HD XR sights which is REMARKABLY similar to the Ameriglo Bold, but a better buy for me (comes already installed and only costs HALF what the Trijicons would cost me buying separately). I like the Ameriglos better, in ADDITION to them being a better option.

So, I like the G43X is still a "hot weather" carry option, but I'm loving the Gen 5 G23. More rounds, more POWERFUL rounds, that I shoot way better. It's heavier, but the Safariland ALS holster carried it remarkably close.

Here's day fire (50 rounds, 3-25 yards, standard BLET course and times) Was REAL proud of this before the 12 rounds at 25 yards!

The bottom was night fire (50 rounds, BLET course, 3-15 yards). My agency currently is a "pass/fail" agency but this WOULD be a "all in the nine ring hundred" which is better than I've done in YEARS! I've had hundreds but had more rounds in the 8 ring.

Last time I took a CCW course. I was shooting like an A-HOLE. All three mags were mag dumps. After the third mag the instructor got pissed and came over, saw the target, and didn't say a word. 😁

Older Springfield XD in .40

My first handgun and EDC was a XD40. I didn't see the big deal about recoil since that's my only experience.Later I bought into the 9mm less recoil, easier to shoot and more readily available and traded for a XDS 9. I now have aP365X for EDC which I shoot reasonably well, but I wish I still had the XD40.

I was worried about 9mm being enough for POLICE DUTY when you might encounter more subjects, barriers, auto body, auto glass, etc. I had heard many reports (both fully verified and anecdotal) reports of 9mm not being enough, especially with auto body and glass.
For the very reason @Big Dave stated, I carry the .40.
I subscribe to and follow the philosophy that, from firearm caliber to engine cubic inches, "bigger (with rare exception) is better". When it "really matters" is no time to come up short.
I have had 2 9mm's in my life. A Browning High Power and a Baretta standard. The sacrifice in mag capacity (10+1 for my .40 vs the various current 9mm's) is well worth it. IMHO

The local LE here went from the .40 back to 9mm for their service weapons. One of my good friends is a retired detective (22 years locally + other depts.).
He mentioned at least one of the reasons was a lot of officers didn't like the recoil of the .40.

I have only shot one 40 that I liked, and it was a STI/Staccato. Glock 22 or 23 just wasn’t my cup of tea. Had a very snappy/flippy perceived recoil. I shoot a 45 better than I shoot a 40. More of a rolling push.

If I am going for power in a handgun just go crazy and do 500 haha

@Average Joe did you tell them you have “a buyer” for thousands of rounds at 16 cents per round?
I did not, just got clarification. If it is like the purchases I made when I was an active LEO and n charge of my agency’s firearms program. Any purchases at the LE agency prices require purchase orders and request on letterhead.

That stuff is easy to generate, just sayin

Because he was one of them killing them in what looks like a fit of pique over being kicked out of the special people club?

Yep. When our work had mandatory covid testing, I may or may not have turned in a Labcorp test result every week that I just altered the dates on

Return? When did .40S&W leave?

While currently less popular than previously, some people like .40S&W and guns and ammo are still being made in that caliber. Heck, look at how long .25 and .32 have survived.

.40S&W will be around a long time, even if its not on the top of the list at future SHOT Shows.
