For $1,000 can I do better than the Bergara HMR? This will be my long range learner rifle and I will use it for deer hunting a couple times per year. I could spend a little more than $1k if the price difference is justifiable. Right now my plan is go pick up the HMR Monday morning. Change my mind.

My HMR shot .3s and .4s with factory FGMM in 168 and 175 grain. My brothers HMR Wilderness shoots .4s and .5s with some sort of factory 300 Win Mag ammo.

I included flyers in my notes for my 308 and my rifle, with flyers my average is .82 MOA over 573 total rounds.

Hard to justify looking at anything else, for me personally.

Ive got an HMR in 308, love it. Dont shoot it much past 200 yds...but at that range, with heavier loads 168gr and 175gr i can stack them on top of each other. I am also not an experienced long distance shooter by any stretch.

I bought an HMR Pro in .300 Winmag, mounted it into an AICS-AX stock, and use it out past 1,000 yards . It likes the heavier bullets, but with the 1/10 twist , I expected that. Nice appearance, slick bolt and no issues. The factory trigger is exceptional. Plus, it is a Remington 700 footprint, which let me use the AICS stock. Gitcha one👍

You can’t go wrong with either Tikka or Bergara.

I sold my Bergara cause I got out of 308, and went to a Savage Elite in 6 Creedmoor.

But the Bergara is a great deal.

You will be hard pressed to find a better rifle than either the HMR or a Tikka for the $1k mark you're aiming for. (see what I did there.....😁)

Call @gr8fuldoug at Cameraland. Great vendor and his prices are hard to beat. If you like spending money, any of the top names are available. If you want to get a good FFP scope with a decent reticle, talk to him about Vortex or Athlon. As with most things, USA/German/Japanese tech costs more. Much more. I got an Athlon in a package deal from a forum member, and am impressed. It doesn’t work like a Chinese product, but is one. The Leupold Mk5HD I bought from Doug, is a tremendous scope. He was also several hundred dollars below his nearest competition, and hooked me up with some quality rings.
Want a tough bipod? Try something like this:

Atlas BT65 Cal Bipods - Atlas BT65 Cal Bipod, No Clamp and ADM-170-S Lever.

Just hold your wallet. It isn’t the flimsy stamped metal bipod you see on bubba’s .308.
Did you get a short- action?

I’ve looked at a Athlon on a used gun not too long ago. It looked just like the primary arms scope I have on my 22 ruger precision. When I say just they look just like a like I’m pretty sure some get primary arms logo and some get athlon logos. I have been impressed with my primary arms scope on the 22 I was shooting it today at 300 yards, but I think I want something a little higher quality for this gun.

I’ve been looking at Atlas bipods this afternoon I think that’s what I’m going to go with.

And yes it is short action. Gods caliber, 308 Winchester.

Glad to hear the Bergaras are shooters, not just lookers. It’s what I plan add to the safe sometime in the near future. Y’all have some nice rifle/scope setups.

+1... but
Tikka > Bergara

Just picked up a CA Ridgeline Scout in 308.
Mounted a Ziess, off to the range tomorrow to break it in.
That thing is light but has a great feel for suppressed hunting.
I will see this fall how it works out.

Little more than a 1k gun but fit and feel I would look at their all steel guns for a little less money.
