January 2024 storm(s)

We got 8"-9" of snow Monday night into Tuesday, with 2"-4" more expected tonight. Highs dropping to single digits or less by Saturday, with lows below zero & more snow called for on Sunday. BBBRRR.

I'll almost feel bad for everyone freezing their body parts off at the playoff game at Arrowhead Saturday night, as I watch it on my 75" tv from the comfort of my couch šŸ˜†

Growing up east of Cleveland, OH, I was taught that IS football. Common to see fans out there shirtless in sub freezing weather.

My wife is from Buffalo. She went to games where they asked fans to man brooms to clear snow from the stands, and they would get free food and drinks. Coldest game I have been to was Notre Dame at Duke a couple years ago, 30 degrees, but dry. That was enough for me. I am all about the climate controlled viewing party from my Lay-Z-Boy and 10' walk to the fridge and bathroom.

I have heard all sorts of forecasts for next week, with rain to big snow, so who knows.

When I worked in Archdale, the locals would say that if there was thunder in the winter that snow would follow within 10 days. We had some thunder on Tuesday.

My mom said the same thing but have seen it not pan out enough to not believe it. That said, we had a storm on Tuesday, too, and if it's true....

F the storm. That damn zombie spider freaked me the F out. I aint going under my house ever again. Ive been kinda freaked out ever since seeing one of those camel spider/crickets whatever as big as my hand. He was dead but so what.
They are freaky, but they taste great!

The drain in front of the Batcave clogged with some over flowing mulch from the planter and water backed up into our basement. Note to self: Ditch the leaf screen. Been runnin the W/D vac for a coupla hours but got on top of it. Got the industrial strength dehumidifier we bought when we moved here "earning it's Alpo" and fans going.
..My neighbor across the street didn't fare so well.. But at least his house, like ours, is on high ground. That's gonna be a pain and those are the power lines just above the water to the left. Hopefully no chunky debris takes those out. The neighbors are on standby if they need anything.
But luckily no tornados and we have options. Hope everybody else is GTG. šŸ¤

Was wondering how the Bat Cave fared in this monsoon.
Sounds like youā€™ve got it covered.

As a fellow married man, sometimes dreams are all we haveā€¦

Yeah. I waded out in it and once I removed the grate that I attached the screen to it drained out pronto.
The red mulch crap is gettin replaced with river rock this spring prolly. The cost of continuing education... šŸ˜³šŸ˜
The other half of yer rod was still GTG last I checked. ;)
Our new neighbor is a bridge engineer. He went and checked out the other neighbor's drive. Lookin forward to that input.

Hasn't been above freezing here since last Wednesday, hasn't been above 0 since Saturday afternoon & calling for more snow tonight. Might inch above freezing this Wednesday, but then right back down into the teens & single digits until Sunday or Monday.

Not a ton of snow on the ground, though. We had a couple days just above freezing between the last two snow events & it was so cold the second go 'round, that the snow from that has mostly blown away. Roads aren't horrible, but neither are they great. At least here, after all the idiots get caught out by the first snow of the season, folks get with the program & remember how to drive in this crap.

Transformer just blew (by the sound of it) in west Asheville. No wind or precipitation to speak of. Duke says 1pm restart; we'll see.
