I read most of those Ludlum novels 25 years ago and really liked them, and my wife and son are in the den watching the latest installment now. She doesn't quite grasp why I won't watch a film with Matt Damon in it anymore.

Any movie with action and guns can't be all that bad.

It's just that Damon is a screaming anti gun lib who would take our 2A rights, and yet glorifies gunplay in the same breath. I just can't abide him any longer. If I watch a movie at all, it is often based on the actors, and whether I like them or not. I like his acting, but I can't abide him in a gun flick.

I do like the scene in the very first movie where he sticks the ball point pen down through the guys knuckles into his hand

Kinda the same reasons I don't go to that other forum anymore.

I walked through the den for ice cubes while they were watching the last 20 minutes, so of course I was spellbound by the action and had to watch till the end. I wish he wasn't such a dick politically.

FWIW it's one of the movies I like Damon in. There are plenty who I don't like but who have a lot of talent.

I think a lot of folks remain unaware of how good of a writer Ludlum was. IIRC there's been a Matarese-series movie "in the works" for several years that I'd love to see come to fruition.

When I was engaged to my wife in 1990 I bought "The Bourne Identity" in hardback and took it to the beach with us and her whole family. I spent the week in a spare bedroom reading it cover to cover. They thought I was mad at them or something. Ludlum's books are just that good.

If I based my movie selection on political views, I'd not have anything to see worth watching... I am fine separating the art from the artist...

It's been a long time since I read the book but it seems like the original 1988 movie might have been a little closer to the book. The Damon version probably has more action. It's been years since I've seen the original with Richard Chamberlain and Jaclyn Smith. I'll have to watch that again at some point to compare to the modern version.

I got turned on to Ludlum after watching The Osterman Weekend with Rutger Hauer in the mid '80's.

I saw the last Borne. It was not as good as the first. The choreography got lazy. Remember how the first used precise hand to hand techniques?, this one relied on shaky camera work to instill the sense of action, kind of like the later Liam Neesan stuff.

If I wanted to get sea sick from watching a movie I'd watch The Blair Witch Project again.

Are you taking about the one with Jeremy Renner? I thought it was a decent action movie but it should be mentioned that it's not based on the Bourne book series just a Hollywood attempt to keep the money flowing with another generic action movie.

No, the new one with Damon. It looked like the cameraman was getting hit during the fights.

Agreed.
There are many people I dont agree with politically or socially, but if the movies are enjoyable then Im in.
Same with other things, like businesses (I dont care what the CEO of Levis said, I'll still wear the jeans/pants, I still go to starbucks etc).

I'll give Starbucks a pass. They tolerated a significant amount of stupidity and did so for a long time and even now remain relatively 2A friendly. There's only so mugh I can expect a company to tolerate before saying enough is enough and the shallow end of the OC was repeatedly showing their ass And dragging Starbucks into it.

I read every book Ludlum's ever written (minus the couple of quasi-comedic ones) as a teenager & am a huge fan of his work. Damon? Meh. Funny in Dogma, decent as Bourne, but like Marky-Mark, DiCraprio & Cruise, I'll not spend one red cent to support their movies.

Exactly. Camera work made me mad!

For me it is about not giving money (when I can help it) to those who will use it (and the fame and power it brings them) to further the left's seemingly inevitable march to their la la land. Of course, it does make it difficult to spend money these days, but somehow I manage. ;)

Yeah. I have plenty of friends that are liberals too. Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy them a beer at the bar... We're all entitled to our opinions...

No shit. I can't stand that shaky camera stuff. The first movie is the only one I can tolerate for that reason.

In the second or third one (I can't remember) there's a scene where he's driving down the street and gets cut off with what looks like no escape. Shaky camera cuts to a shot of the steering wheel. Bourne jerks the wheel. Then the camera man apparently drops the camera down a long flight of stairs. Next frame is Bourne driving away from the chaos. WTF? I guess even the director couldn't figure out how he got out of that predicament.
