Is that basically a hush puppy shaped like a fish stick?
They are cooked really hard, to the point of being uncomfortably crunchy.

I lived for 10 years in eastern NC, and I've lived in southeast VA for the last 12 where east NC BBQ rules everything, but I cannot make myself like corn sticks or brunswick stew. Corn sticks are dry and mealy, and brunswick stew would be better if it just went all the way to vegetable soup.

But it's an important part of the BBQ tradition that I wouldn't take it from anybody.

You've not had good brunswick stew, then.

Perry's Market here in Mint Hill has it and I decided to try it a while back. It's now one of my top soup/stew foods. It even has lima beans in it--which are from the debil--and I still liked it!

Listen, Limey. We don't care where you came from. If you live in NC and don't know what a cornstick, or corn stick, is get over to Wilson and find out. Your life might never be the same.

I used to go to Wilson a good bit, I don't remember being attacked by anyone trying to force corn sticks down my throat. Now you've shown a pic I believe I've had them once or twice, but I prefer hush puppies. The corn sticks were OK though. Bit like savoury plywood.

Corn sticks are like cornbread and hush puppies are like cake. The corn sticks are made hard to absorb the sweet tea. The tea is so sweet after about 4-5 glasses you get a buzz so strong you can start to smell colors.

Heh.

I have to confess that I get antsy at about 1/3 of a tank left though.

Half a tank for me. Learned that a long time ago when my company vehicle was diesel and you couldn't get diesel at every station. There were some towns back in the day that it was hard to find diesel in. I always tried to keep half a tank or more in. And that was with 40 gal regular and a spare tank too. But then 200+ miles a day was common.
