A key thing to understand is this rod (red arrow).
When that is screwed in, it hits the slide lock (green arrow).
The rod locks the slide lock in place. This is a substantial difference from the way a normal 1911 goes together.

When that road is tightened, this pin (green arrow) doesn't move. The slide release pivots on that pin. This again is unlike the 1911, where the slide release is one-piece, and pivots inside the frame.
