Florida state trooper hospitalized following pursuit, shootout; 1 suspect dead
A state trooper in Florida was shot by a suspect after a police pursuit on Interstate 75 near Tampa early Saturday morning. A second suspect was taken into custody.

The trooper who was shot is my nephew. All we know is pretty much what's been reported here. From what we've been able to find out, the perp's shot hit him right at the bottom of his vest and just above his belt. He returned fire and killed the perp.
Update-
Yesterday he was able to sit up, get out of bed and take a couple steps- all with assistance but it's a great start on the road to recovery.
