I wonder, and may ask, what the penalty is for taking a deer in my small towns City limits with a bow. I don't think there are specific laws against taking deer in season with a license. You can't legaly shoot a bow in town. But if the fine is small then other than freaking out the Karens, taking a deer outside my bedroom window might be worth the penalty.

Fine? Depends on if you get caught? By saying using a bow, I assume you mean quietly. Do you know how to process it yourself? If so, probably nothing.

Thinking the same but never bow hunted; with a decent hit, will the animal still go for yards before dropping? It will be a problem if the deer ends up bleeding on a neighbor‘s driveway or front door 🤔

I get deer almost nightly strolling through the yard, last night video from garage security camera.

if you get caught the game wardens get involved and like previously stated, that’s not good. Considering using the wrong bait for trout fishing gives you a $200+\- ticket, illegally killing a deer in city limits with a weapon that’s illegal to use will come with a BIG fine, or more.

I researched taking deer inside city limits a while back because I had the same questions. Deer were moving through the woods where I used to work, in the Winston Salem industrial park. I can’t remember what my research told me, but it was bad enough for me to never think about it again 😆

Some towns have a “special” hunting season just for bow hunting inside the city limits. I don’t remember all the specifics, but I’d check to see if your town is one of the ones that participate.

I’ve mused through this through many times because my house backs up to a city park and a wildlife park. The biggest deer ever caught on my camera was in my backyard (see Mr. Ten Point and his girlfriend below). Even with mechanical broadheads and great shot placement, he’s going to run, and you never know which way. If you’re in a subdivision, he’s going to bleed on the neighbor’s driveway. Dragging a deer across a lawn makes a pretty clear trail right back to your house. You can't load a 120-150 pound deer into a truck bed without somebody seeing you. Everybody has outdoor cameras now. And thanks to that NextDoor app, everyone in town will know what you did.

I enjoy hunting, but if I harvested a buck illegally, I don't think my conscience would allow me to celebrate it, even if I did manage to get away with it.

I could take them with a long knife where I am.

The point of this is if meat becomes un affordable.

I am not talking about harvesting illegally. There is no law that i know of that prevents harvesting deer anywhere if you have a license and deer stamps.

Please forgive me if I misunderstood. I know that many towns, including mine, have ordinances against using a bow for any purpose within the city limits. And if he runs onto someone else's property (and he will), you'd be trespassing if you didn't have permission to track or recover.

So many of the comments in this thread exemplify what has gone wrong with our world. Bowing to the idea of needing permission of the Crown to harvest food on your property. Fearing the bunny police and pretending any sort of monetary fine the crown my try to demand is in any way justified. Such a shame.

And the season is open.

NCWRC website used to list the municipalities that had a special archery season that continued on into January. In this day and age hunting and firearms are synonymous in the eyes of the left. Both are not what "decent" people do or have according to that sorry bunch. That's why you have to be a cut above, especially with hunting. Good, clean, ethical kills should be a top priority of every hunter. In the eyes of the media "hunters" and "poachers" are one and the same.

I personally despise a poacher. Hunters have spent hundreds of millions of dollars bringing back and managing wildlife making us the envy of the world in conservation. When someone poaches "my" wildlife I get pissed as I consider it stealing from the public good. A thief is a thief, no matter if he is stealing your lawnmower or poaching a deer. And the old excuse of "feeding my family" doesn't wash with me. If you are that poor then sign up for the myriad of government programs and go to the grocery store and pick up some free steaks and leave our wildlife alone. We (hunters) have paid for it and if you don't have a license then it doesn't belong to you. :)

I suggest you look at how hunting works in a place that actually has a "crown" in charge. Way better system here.

Just because one form of tyranny and oppression isn’t as bad as others isn’t justification for accepting it.

These are quarter acre lots so my guess is the poaching angle would change from minute to minute. If I shoot a deer on my property and he falls over dead on yours, is that poaching? I'd shoot out my bathroom window lol. Or just choke em out.Screenshot_20220327-093801_YouTube.jpg

The Crown does not force property owners to grant you access across their land to recover your deer. One side of my property where I hunt, the owner would come out and help you find your deer on his land. But two others have told me that if he crosses the line, it's his deer (and one told me she would give him a proper burial). Killing wildlife in a location where you will not likely be able to recover it is wanton waste, and unethical as hell.

If you have them eating out of you hand, just pop them in the head with a ball peen hammer. Or put a rope around their neck first, so they can't run off. Problem solved.

I wish I could lasso them and lead them to the truck and then shoot them. Would be so much easier than dragging their heavy asses through the woods.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bunny sheriff took your bow, your deer, and had the police haul your ass off for an overnight stay, your legal research be damned.

Yeah, tyranny. Because without government intervention (which was asked for by sportsman), there would have been SO many hunting opportunities of all the extinct species. Oppression can come from sources other than government.

Here in Elkin, during deer season bow hunting is allowed, and even have “urban season” 4 weeks end half of January and first 2 weeks in February.

Blowgun would do the trick! Who would believe you killed it with a dart? The deer don't seem to spook to bad either so they stay kinda close after the shot.

I lived for a short time with some Indians in the Amazon basin who hunted regularly with blowguns. They are only effective with small game. They hunt what is called "marsh deer" and some hogs and some other relatively large game but never with blowguns.

300BO with a can on it. make sure you run an encapsulated buffer tube on it or it sounds like an old aluminum screen door slamming. My son shot several and the others never ran off. Neighbors will never know.

Take a picture of them eating plants on your property, apply for a nuisance permit from the state. Problem solved😎
I spray my hostas with deer stink stuff, works great.

I think I'll dig some dead falls. They fall in and I jump in and stab em and chop em up in the hole and then fill in the hole.

Oh!!!!!!!

Taser. Why was I complicating this.

"Don't tase me", Doe!
