Lagers Hack Shack

Just put the XR up for sale on the dreaded Market Place and here in the Buy/sell. If you guys know of anyone that needs a different kind of Bike, steer them in that direction please.

I've wanted an XR since day one. At this point in my life it would be totally wasted on me.

Good luck with the sale.

When I got this bike last year it was in really sad shape. Now it's time for another project so its gotta go. No wonder I've had close to 100 bikes in the past 50 years, I get bored then move on, used to be that way with wemen. I eventually realized that it cost me too much to get rid of them just to get another one with different problems for me to fix. But with Bikes, I usually make money and have more fun doing it.

There’s a tall, slim, 83 year old guy who was the private pilot for UNC, who would ride up to the brewery on Sunday mornings on an XR. He looked 30 years old, till he took his helmet off. He recently sold it and bought a KLR.

I showed him pics of your bike last week. He LOVED it. But I don’t think he’s going to buy another.

This is interesting, I put the XR up for at a good price as compared to the other 2 on the marketplace. There are only 3 for sale on the entire East coast as far as I can tell but I've received NO interest, not even a low baller. No wait, I did get an offer from a guy that offered to trade for 2 Buells, both of which actually looked good but Buells are hard to get rid of cause no one wants them either. Then, in the effort to clean the garage of projects that I just don't have the energy to complete any more due to the heart meds I have to take, I decided to put the 75 Hd XLH up for sale . Now interest in that has been high, but it's also for a lot less money. I spend more time talking people out of buying the Old HD cause I know they can't even change their own oil on their cars much less take care of an Antique HD and suggest they buy a 883 for just a lil bit more. Maybe instead of trying to match a buyer to the correct bike, let them learn a lesson of buyer beware, but I'm having a hard time doing that.

Not the ironhead 😢
Yep,, the iron head also.. I just don't have the energy or will to do anything with this bike anymore, sadly. I've got one guy that's insisting on buying the bike no matter how much I try and try to talk him out of it. He wants to ride it out of here for a 2 hour ride back to his house, I doubt he will make it.. Hes an ex con that just got out and hasn't got any other tow transpo. I offered to deliver the bike to him because everyone needs a break.

A reliable daily ironhead 🤔

Finally sold the old XL, and what a PITA it was.. I had every intention of making it into an old XR 750 look a like. But due to heart meds, that's not going to happen. But, I did make it run well, replaced the carb and fixed the fuel contamination problem. Fixed the elect starter and front brake master cylinder and charging system. But for the past almost a month after posting it on face book, I've spent hours fielding questions about the bike every stinkin day. Heard all the excuses on why they cant pick it up at the last minute. I almost was at a point where I wanted to just drop it off at a junk yard just so I could take a break. Then I had a guy that, seemed to be serious. No BS questions, said he was going to travel 2 hours to get here. Yeah I heard that before but he actually showed up. 26 year old long haired bearded tattooed young man showed up with a friend driving an old church van towing a trailer. He loved the bike, even tho it hadn't been run in about a month it fired right up and he was happy as can be. Then he told me that he was going to remove the front brake master cylinder and move the clutch lever there. I questioned why and he pointed to his left arm . I looked and it was shriveled and really didn't have a hand and he told me that its from Birth. It didn't stop him from riding bikes tho, he's been riding for the past 15 years and he just modifies the bike to suit him. Im glad I met this young man, he truely reminds me of disabled vets that make lemonade from lemons. We cut a deal and I only lost $400. But the bike is gone and I don't have to talk to anymore people every day about the bike and it went to a good home.

I feel like I should explain why I loved this post. The fact that the young man has overcome his disability to do what he loves and picked up a new bike to satisfy that makes me smile.

One of the OGs at Sunday morning "biker’s coffee” at the brewery in Pittsboro has a couple of old bikes for sale. One a British racer of some flavor, Norton I think, and another more mainstream. He finally sold that one. He’s from Australia, maybe early seventies, and just a nice polite guy, but I asked him how that went, and he basically said the same thing you did. Just one giant PITA.

I’ve sold three bikes in three years. One to a dealer, and two to friends. Which is exactly how I sell guns. I just can’t tolerate the stupid from the public.

He truly is a nice guy that has a lot mechanical experience. He asked me as he was leaving if he could contact me for advise and I told him yes. I talk to him daily now and try to guide or advise him. Not everyone can tackle an old Iron head and its inherent problems, but he's willing to learn. He is pretty darn smart and his questions are legit. His disability ,Its kinda funny, I'm usually pretty quick to pick up on it, just like I'm sure you are? I didn't notice anything for the 30 min he was here. Hes out there slinging the trailer ramp down, doing guy stuff like its nothing.
