Calling all FCA Jeep owners past and present. I've been SUV shopping and I decided I should do the due diligence of looking this way. Purchase is still 6 months out. How has your vehicle held up? Reliable? Just small niggles? How's the maintenance bill at the dealer for oil and filters? How's the treatment you recieve from the dealer? Consumer reports says FCA is (paraphrased) garbage reliability overall.

Considering a 2022 Grand Cherokee, probably about $50k budget. I've seen the 2021 Grand Cherokee L model which is too big for me, but the interior and exterior are both to my liking in photos.

We have a 2015 grand cherokee with ~55k miles. We really like it. Only issues we've had is a fuel tank emissions test part went out while under warranty (3 year/36k for emissions equipment) - therefore fixed at no charge. Sadly, it just popped the same code for a fuel system vapor leak. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Could be the same part gone bad again or could be a leaking hose, among other things. Hopefully it turns out to be simple and cheap as it's not under warranty anymore. Doesn't affect drivability though.

Oil changes are about as simple as they can be and can be done for ~$35 with full synthetic. The Uconnect infotainment system is very good. The 3.6 V6 and 8 speed auto are a good combo. Gets around 25 MPG on a long highway trip. 20 MPG in town, unless my wife is driving it....

I bought a 2020 Gladiator and have ~17k miles on it now. Same engine and transmission. Newer but similar Uconnect system. I like it.

Wife wants one of the new Grand Wagoneers that's coming out, but i don't want to spend my retirement money on a car, so that's going to wait a few more years.

I had a 92 YJ Wrangler back in my youth. I wrenched on it a lot. I also "upgraded" things as they broke. I also off-roaded it and beat the heck out of it rolling it sideways down hills. The fuel system was a problem. The fuel pump died once. They used rubber hoses to connect the gas tank to the stainless lines that ran up to the engine. Those hoses would rot frequently. So far it sounds like more of the same, except I'm not 19 and laying under a Jeep wrenching doesn't sound fun anymore.

Still want to hear your experiences with newer FCA builds. My old Chrysler build was obviously garbage.

Not sure this helps much but… I had a 15 JKU for 6mo. No mechanical or quality issues, I simply discovered I’m not a Jeep guy. I missed driving a Toyota.
While I wouldn’t buy one, I do like the looks of the Grand Cherokee inside and out.

Check your emission warranty. I 'think' most emission items are 100k miles.
Very few. Three to be exact…up to 8yr/80K. I knew it was catalytic converters, but looked it up to see what else was listed.

The Federal Emissions Warranty, however, gives you added benefits on top of that coverage. If the vehicle fails an emissions test during the vehicle's first 2 years/24,000 miles (8 years/80,000 miles for specified major components), the manufacturer must make repairs or modifications necessary to allow the vehicle to pass. Specified major emission control components are covered for and include only the catalytic converters, the electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU), and the onboard emissions diagnostic (OBD) device or computer. This applies even if there are no mechanical defects with the vehicle. It is different from the Design and Defect Warranty.

I had a buddy that always bought Jeeps, before eventually getting burned enough to abandon the brand altogether. He likes to joke that being a Jeep owner was like joining a cult - you give them all your money, let them screw you as hard and often as they want, then you go around telling anybody who will listen how great it is. 😂

Not a Jeep.......Bad JuJu.....Jeeps 70% of sticker 3 years out. Nothing comes close. My experience is 10 Brand New ones in the past 13 years.
"Not a Jeep"....are you saying it's not a CJ or Willy's...I agree, the brand name is still Jeep, but a Grand Cherokee is not a "jeep."

"70% of sticker 3 years out" ....are you saying they depreciate that much or that they hold their value....in my experience Wranglers hold their value, the SUVs maybe not so much.

"Nothing comes close"....to what? The resale value?

"10 Brand new in 13 years" ...is this an endorsement for them or suggesting they need frequent replacement and you can't bring yourself to try something different?

Billy...I'm so confused at what you mean by all this.

Think he means hold there value. Atleast anything I have had or seen did with the jeep name on it.

Think about it...it'll come to you...............................................or maybe Not?

JEEP = JUST EMPTY EVERY POCKET
But that is primarily driven by an addiction to upgrades that result in off road behavior that breaks more OEM parts that feed to Jeep owner's motto: Equipment Failure is an Excuse for Upgrade.
I spent about $7K on mods for my 2010 Rubicon. Worth every penny, Did a lot of it myself. Left the gears to the pros.

Exactly my experience.

Can't argue there !!!

I’ve had 12 in all and I had almost zero problems, even from the late model ones.

If you have one that WORKS, they're great. My '07 Commander has BEEN great so far, but NO thanks to 14 years of Pittsburgh rust, it's serviceable life is coming to an end.

My kids ain't gettin' any smaller, and my salary ain't gettin' any bigger. When the wife's mini-van is paid off in a couple of years, I may get a late model Durango Crew with a 345 Hemi. Every shiitebox out there big enough to haul 'em in, comes with some eco-turd V-6 or 4 these days, though.

If GOD intended for us to drive underpowered shiiteboxes, He wouldn't have INVENTED the V-8, is my thought.

For the same price as a new eco- 💩 , I can probably get one of these fully restored! 🤔

My wife's 2020 JLU has been fine....passenger visor broke... apparently this happens alot with them.

My dealer experience started out bad....called about getting 35s mounted they said sure no problem. My wife went and had them done she loved it! I got home and noticed they fubared the wheels on the inside...BAD! Service manager assured me his wheel guy can fix them up like new. Wife dropped it off and took a loaner POS home...I returned it to pick her Jeep up....paint didn't match for crap brake dust all over and when they installed the wheels they gouged the new paint. GM happened to be in the store.. he was very quick to come see what was going on....he said this is dumb I have a set of these wheels we took off one for a lift/wheel package....hooked me up with them so in the end all was good just had to find it as they let it go out the door twice!

My experience Is on par with a happy meal watch. But that wasn’t the newest model. If your asking about reliability or fuel economy a jeep probability isn’t for you.
