Lincoln county this morning. Stills from a video I can’t get to upload. Got a pretty long tail on it and looks like the belly is a bit floppy. Hard to get a good judge in size. The person that took this said it was big and was concerned enough to call NCWRC. They said bobcat but I don’t think they saw the video either. They always say bobcat.

That does not look like a bobcat tail. Tell them not to shoot it, because it is illegal to shoot an extinct cougar.

There was a black bear spotted in the last week here in Cabarrus county on the northeast side of the Coddle Creek Reservoir. But according to the NC Wildlife, we don't have bears in Cabarrus Co.

Also had a 38" alligator in a side ditch about 3 miles from me about a month ago, and we don't have alligators here either.

Last year a neighbor lost her hybrid Serval cat … he snuck out of her house with one of her kids. She keeps that cat up and when out is in a harness … and BIG. He evaded her for a couple days and she told everyone so we didn’t shoot him by mistake. She finally caught him in a using a Hav-A-Hart trap and a chunk of salmon. Maybe that’s some’s escaped hybrid …

Are there mushrooms growing in your yard? You seem to be "seeing" a lot of extinctified critters... :)

Markings look wrong for a semi-domesticated african cat, I’m voting that it doesn’t exist.

Taxidermy man gonna have a heart attack when he see what you brung him

I'm not a wildlife biologist but it sure looks like a cougar / mountain lion. It looks more cream / yellow and way too big for bobcat. I agree tail is long. NCWRC says we don't have certain animals in certain counties I'm glad they know location of all the animals and when they cross county and state lines.

I don’t think that’s a bobcat. Their tail is 6-7” long.

That’s a daggum mountain lion.

Is this Western Lincoln Co / Vale / Cat Square?

I have lots of family out that way, and almost all will attest to having seen a cougar.

Off startown rd in a subdivision. Cousin sent me the video and those are screen shots from it. He said they didn’t find tracks. Wish the video was better and longer.

if it’s where I think it is there is a deep ravine in the woods there and backs up to a large power line right of way iirc.

Get the person to stand in the exact spot and have someone take a picture for reference

Good idea. Since the pictures aren’t that clear, having a size reference would help. My initial opinion is cougar/mountain lion. Color and tail look wrong for it to be a bobcat.

the tail appears to long to be a bobcat but there is zero point of reference to determine size.....that could be a 5 lb animal or a 100 lb animal

Too dry for mushrooms. I'm having to water everything to keep it alive.

Here is the link for the alligator.
About 14 years ago, there was an 8' long alligator in the reservoir just below my house and we would see him regularly.

Looks like a big tabby housecat. Not a bobcat, without a reference to size it looks too small to be a cougar. Just a guess though.

I almost hit a mountain lion with my car late one night when I live in Botetourt County, VA. The state denied they were in the area(our neighborhood backed up to the Jefferson National Forest) for months until it was sighted about 5 more times. They claimed they were afraid someone would hunt it. I'd say expect the same answers for the same reasons.

I saw a mountain lion during broad open daylight crossing Hw 87 just outside Boiling Spring Lakes several years ago.

Mountain Lion

The tail tells the tale.

Go down there and look for tracks. If there is a decent amount of non-grassed dirt, take a rake and groom a fairly large area. Go back in a day or three and check the groomed area for tracks. A mountain lion will have paw prints as big or bigger than a man's hand.

Looking at how rural the east side of 85 is in Cabarrus County, I don't know how you could NOT have bears. Gators, that's new to me, though.

This. Need a size reference. This is the same issue down east in Hyde co with the panther that "doesn't exist according to NCWRC". In college ~15 years ago a farmers daughter in my class took a NJ city kid to Hyde for the weekend to experience farm life. They saw it and she said she would see it regularly in high school while running. The NJ kid ended up going back north after that semester lol

@Ponzerite have you seen the black panther down there?

Mountain lions:
Even where there are many of them, they don't really exist.

They're like ghosts. But can actually hurt you haha.

On this cat, the face/neck looks a little small. And has the housecat tummy going on.

But tail does look legit. If I only saw second pic I'd say ML. But first pic.......Looks like house cat.
