Let’s play “what kind of cat is this?”

This. Need a size reference. This is the same issue down east in Hyde co with the panther that "doesn't exist according to NCWRC". In college ~15 years ago a farmers daughter in my class took a NJ city kid to Hyde for the weekend to experience farm life. They saw it and she said she would see it regularly in high school while running. The NJ kid ended up going back north after that semester lol

@Ponzerite have you seen the black panther down there?

I saw one in Hyde County a little over 15 years ago. Was driving down NC-94 near the Tyrrell County border. It was on the side of the highway (there is NOTHING on that stretch of road) and, as I approached, it very gracefully jumped the ditch beside the road and disappeared into the woods.

Nope, heard stories, seen pictures.

Looking at how rural the east side of 85 is in Cabarrus County, I don't know how you could NOT have bears. Gators, that's new to me, though.
We are on the west side of 85. Have you been to Cabarrus County lately? Everywhere you look, new developments are being built. This whole area is just an extension of Charlotte, without the Mecklenburg Co. tax.

Def not a bobcat... The word from the local warden (in person) was something like this:
There ARE cougars in the area, but the only ones documented so far are single males. They don't consider the species to "reside" where there are no breeding pairs since males will wander 2000+ miles in search of a mate. Leading hypothesis is that the Eastern cougar (aka mountain lion/catamount) is extinct for practical purposes, and that the ones we see on game cameras are actually the Western cougar having made it this far East. Only genomic testing from roadkill or hunts can verify that since they're almost indistinguishable, to me anyway. I've seen bobcats in person, have not seen a cougar yet. But I have seen a deer skeleton in a tree...

Bigfoot

Yes...we need Bobo to get out there in order to determine the size of this creature from the outer edge.

It is most certain not Mothman or a Thunderbird, but cant rule out a skinwalker at this point.

If you listen very carefully they almost always reference, "There are no breeding pairs."

Apparently they just saw a bear in that area as well. He's having quite a week. He got the bear on a trail cam so if any other pics show up I'll post them. FWIW, not far from there they are finishing up a 64 acre warehouse build and expanding another, then cleared about that much land just down the road. So there are probably a lot of things moving around.

apparently somebody spotted a pretty nice looking black bear in Eastover, just a couple miles east from the busy part of fayetteville

it is a blurry cat.

a Hedburg quote:

“I think Bigfoot is blurry,

that's the problem.

It's not the photographer's fault.

Bigfoot is blurry,

and that's extra scary to me.

There's a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside”

Go kitty go. Sorry I'm always rooting for the wildlife. They were here first.

I always pull for the lone predators. They got it tough.

Deer: I hope they get shot or eaten by a mountain lion before they jump out in front of my motorcycle.
