Let's talk about my fat............wood. Lightered.

And we're off to the races!

Since I've done most of the fire starting methods I've gotten lazy and now carry a lighter and a broke up starter stick for gettin things goin initially. But sometimes it's still a treat to suffer basic fire starting just ta make sure I don't get too rusty.. Fat lighter is mighty handy for that.
Just make sure it's all gone before ya start cookin!!
Really lookin forward to startin up back out inna woods this week.. 🤠

Is it only pine you can find this in? I grew up using wood and/or Kerosene for heat and we called it lighterned. I've found this (or what I thought was this) in old stumps. Where the only thing left is the stump and piece of root ball that you can usually get up/out of the ground with little effort. I have a few stumps piled up ill take a pic of. I assumed these were cedar stumps

We do burn a lot of cedar stumps but we burn them whole in the firebowl because they are usually dry and they look cool.

But yeah, pine is the only tree with that kind of resin that hardens like that, around here anyway.

About last night.......... 😇

Trying to catch up on orders and get a little ahead. Been doing it in the dark the past couple of nights by lantern and headlamp. Never dreamed there would be this much demand. But I really enjoy doing it anyway. So why not? Thursday night I got several knocked out. Less distractions. Fire going at my back. Black lab sitting on the other picnic table about 20 feet away as an alarm. Celtic music emanating from the shop. Really pleasant time to work.

Not gonna bust him out, but last night after dark, a fellow forum member, after replacing an extractor in 10-22 for me, decided he wanted to try his hand at processing fatwood. And he was super helpful! Not everybody is even when well intentioned.

So we got a LOT done! (And had a good time!) But the conversations were hilarious!

10:30pm or so with firebowl popping and cracking in the background.
"Dang it! I dropped 3 or 4 pieces on the ground!"

"Need me to come get em?"

"Nah. Just let me move this other bottle of Jack Daniel's. Hold up, if I move that Beretta I think I can get em."

11:30pm-ish
"Can you pass me them pine rosin flavored Cheeze-Its? Dang the bacon ones go really good with the sticky resin on my fingers."

"Holy crap I smell good but my wife is gonna think I've been cheating on her with a wood nymph!"

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🧙‍♂️

I'm starting to think this winter is gonna be a little funky. I feel the same drive that the squirrels and crows must who stole every single one of our apples this year. They know it's coming!

Got plenty for now. The biggest ones are about 4 inches. The ones on the jars are a little over 2 inches.

I stuck one of the 4 inch ones on the tailgate of my Nissan truck, too small. Can't see what it is until about 15 feet away. Thinking about ordering some 6 inch ones?

Hard ta tell. Unlike the ones for the jars/cans, they'd prolly hafta be some kindof sun resistant vinyl or some such.
Mebbe dink around with the size of the font/pics to get bigger on smaller surface.
The Vault Boy sticker is 6".. I wouldn't want any bigger for sure..

Gotcha on the size

Luckily, if I am tracking you right, these Gnomestead ones are vinyl!

I notice the white outline stickers contrast well and are pretty clear..
But I dunno how that'd work out with yer Gnome. The colors are nice..

I had a special request to do a couple of the big coffee cans with a mixture of cedar kindling split very fine and some lightered.

I enjoyed doing those some much I did a couple of extra to throw in the mix.

I kinda like these!
