Looking at the 1894 Marlin Dark series in 357 mag to go with my 3 wheelies.
Good....bad....read a bit where people comparing to the Henry...one negative for Ol Henry is no side gate load.
Friend has one and I'm not fond of tube load so...
Input, praise, dislike ...all ears👍

Henry’s making side-loaders now.

I have a Henry in 357 Oct barrel, a little heavy but shoots like butter. I thought they started making them with a side gate. Check it out before buying the marlin. Personally, I wouldn't buy a newer Marlin. My grandchildren will get the Henry one day

Henry has the stainless all weather one with synthetic stock...still on fence in all honesty.

Those are hard chromed, not stainless & I like nice wood on my stainless, as well. I've got the blued steel Henry .41 carbine & love it, I've just got a thing for stainless & my OCD demands a proper partner for my four stainless .41 single actions 🙃

Henry's octagon barreled, CCH .357 is on my must-have list. Just one or two things ahead of it in the queue.

Yea saw that....has Marlin quality gone down that much vs Henry???? For the dollar and dependable
After the JM's, it's remington quality and consistency. So yes.
Ruger bought Marlin, hopefully they'll start producing quality lever guns for a reasonable price.

I have a Henry Long Ranger in .243 Win - so a bit of a hybrid being lever action, but with a box magazine. I'm hoping to add the .357 Big Boy (in some configuration) to the collection - that, and maybe the single shot .308.

threaded barrel, side gate loading OR pull the magazine tube if you don't have a can on. fiber optic sights.
I like the picatinny rail on top of the marlin, but i'm sure that's about a $10 upgrade for the henry.

While I love lever guns, I personally don't like the black painted ones, or the ones that try to be tactical, etc. Traditional wood and iron for me,iron sights. As far as JM barrels or not - what's it for? For collecting/passing down; yes, a JM Marlins, older Winchesters, etc. For the ATV's, l use Rossi's as I don't care if they get banged up.

Buy the Henry; decide you'd prefer a Marlin; and I'll take the Henry off your hands to help you out! :D
Also, if you buy the JM Marlin, but decide you'd prefer a Henry, I'll take the Marlin off your hands to help you out!

I wont hesitate to buy a Ruger made Marlin when they start rolling out.
Every Ruger I ever bought needed some TLC in the spit and polish department but built like tanks and great shooters.

They had to retool some of the old Marlin equipment and likely improved some of the other with modern manufacturing methods.

Uberti makes some fine lever actions. Pricey but great looking guns.

I Love Lever Guns...........

Find a JM Marlin and never look back.
It kills me that I've owned and sold several of the well built Marlin 336s before they started being junk. I'll never get those back for sane money that's for sure.

I have a 1978 Winchester 94 30-30 and a 1979 JM Marlin 1894 in 44 mag. On my wish list is one in 38/357.

Once I get my stuff out of storage, I'll have to post up some pics

I have a 1969 Marlin .444 rifle that with a steady hand, will shoot clover leaves @ 100 yards using 265gr Hornady FPs.
Only lever gun I ever had, however the Henry .44mags are looking better these days.

I still don’t see a .41 side load- just checked recently on their site.
It’s the only caliber missing . . .

.41's definitely a red headed stepchild & I was so overjoyed when Henry finally offered them, that I immediately bought the first 16.5" carbine I could find.

Side loading makes no difference to me & am totally fine with tube loading, having grown up with Marlin rimfires. In fact, I find side loaders awkward with my big ol' fat fumble fingers.

Ruger has always been good for keeping the .41 alive & am sure they'll eventually get to the .41 with the new Marlins. Won't be cheap, though. Shoulda bit the bullet & bought one when they were running $900-$1200....

One more thing...... check the twist rate of the barrel. If you like long/heavy bullets, some lever guns might not work for you.

For the Henry Long Ranger:

1:10 for .243 Win or .308 Win (20" barrel)
1:8 for 6.5 CM (22" barrel)
