A staple not only in the world’s most popular cocktail but in classics such as the Daiquiri and Gimlet,
fresh limes have soared in cost over the past year,
leaving a sour taste for bar owners across the country.
And while inflation is impacting every facet of operations right now,
in the case of limes, price hikes owe more to unusually poor growing conditions
and socio-economic norms in a country torn by organized crime.

Not really news to me as a chef- food prices have been f'ed since covid started and the labor shortages got bad.

never understood the lime in the beer thing

My grandfather's friend was involved with first importing Corona to the US and he told me the history about that.

Every beer in Mexico is served with a lime (bottle, draft, etc) to keep the flies out of your drink. Tourists started pushing them in the bottle and the fad began.

Some beers do taste better with lime though.

When I went to Mexico (after knowing that knowledge) I noticed the flies sure do stay out of your drinks.
