I got a call from the wife of my friend of 40 years a few weeks ago. I was out to see them about 4 years ago and knew he wasn’t doing well.

When she called she told me he was slipping fast. He couldn’t even get on the phone.

Well today she called to tell me he had passed.

We met in June of 1981 when I got a new job with the Treasury Dept as a computer operator on the night shift. He was 1 of the senior operators and took me under his wing.

We hunted, fished, cut firewood and did a lot of shooting together. We moved our families together from Fresno, California to Martinsburg, WVa.

When he retired and moved back to Ogden, Utah I was there beside him. When I got remarried 6 years ago he was beside me.

The only gun I ever gave away was to him as a wedding present. A Marlin .357 lever action that he loved to shoot.

I’ve never had a better friend.

God rest your soul Saxon Castle 🏰

Prayers for you and your friends family.

Super cool to have a friend like that.

Prayers for your friend and all who loved him.

Sorry to hear about your friend and thank you for honoring him among us on the forum. It's men like you that help others know the good things about people that would otherwise go silent and be forgotten about.

Terrible loss bud. Friends are rare. Friends like that even more so.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Thank you for sharing the story.

Not many men can say they had a friend like that and for that many years. Sorry your friend has passed.

@MikeS. , When the great Stonewall Jackson lay on his deathbed, after hours of No movement, he raised his head, opened his eyes, and while pointing across the room and said.................We'll cross the river here...and rest in the shade on the other side.

The great general was a religious man, I am not....I Yearn to be shown what he saw. I love this story and hope it gives You the hope it gives Me...........That One Day...we will all be together, resting in the shade on the other side..............I'll see you there.

Great tribute to a great friend. Thank you for sharing. Prayers for you and everyone touched by his loss.

I am sorry to hear that, sounds like a great friendship.

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your best friend. Look for comfort in all the wonderful memories of him I'm sure you must have. I can picture him sitting under that shade tree with the Marlin lever rifle across his lap. Prayers up.

Thanks again my friends. This is a great bunch of people to be associated with.

God bless y’all!

I talked to his wife and a couple of his kids on Thanksgiving night. She was heartbroken of course, as were all of them. Me too.

She said she’ll be mailing the rifle back to me. He asked her to and to tell me to think of him and all the great life experiences we shared together. I think I’ll take that Marlin to the grave with me.
