If you purchase an item from someone, and that item gets 'lost' in transit, who normally is responsible for investigating/filing claim?

Short of it is, I sent money for items, money receipt confirmed, items shipped, tracking number forwarded. Item was shipped on 12/4 (from 100 miles away). Tracking number continues to say "in transit".

I know things are slow now, but this has been 21 days...

Never been in this situation. Who normally picks this up, buyer/seller?

thanks.

If it is USPS, it is normal right now. I was told 3 week delays are normal right now and that is priority mail. It also is happening with UPS (not as bad). A 5 day ground from UPS is over two weeks in a lot of cases.

My personal experience, I had a package go missing and USPS told me the shipper had to file the trace & claim.

Shipper and it will probably get ugly if its a higher $ item and insurance wasnt purchased.

Thanks for all the responses. Yes, it was USPS. It just seems bizarre to me that it would take more then 21 days to go 100 miles. Guess I'll just hang tight a little longer...

I’ve got a package sent in late November that still hasn’t arrived. My opinion is give it more time, post office is weeks behind.

Yep. Post office sucks lately. I remember when I could send packages to the pacific northwest in 2-3 days. Someone from here mailed me something from Texas and it took 13 days to get here. Crazy.

I'm still waiting on exhaust valves purchased from rockauto at the beginning of the month. Expected delivery date has long past and even the tracking went blank. Supposedly they are showing up today. And it was usps.

I’m still waiting on something USPS actually shows as shipped on 11/28. Par for the course right now unfortunately.

Maybe I'm just lucky. Have had two orders shipped lately. One from Calif got here in less than a week - USPS even after spending 3 days in Raleigh over a weekend. The other one I ordered on the 15th. UPS shipped to USPS and it was delivered Sunday afternoon.

I sent a Priority Mail envelope to my son on 11/27. It took 12 days to get from NC to Mass. So much for the almost $8.00 for the Priority shipment.

Yep, priority (2 day) is taking between 2 days and 2 weeks right now, even for relatively local stuff. Had a package go missing for 9 days, we were waiting the last 6 (have to wait 15 days from shipped date to file a claim) and checked on the 11th and it was delivered...this was from sc to nc

I had a propriety package take 14 days in November To go from Marietta GA to Greensboro. Then two more days to me.

I'd say you might have to wait until after the first of the year to see alot of this backlog get resolved. RR sent my a knife and that took 6-7 days which was probably an anomaly; I'm shocked it arrived as early as it did.

The ballots got priority plus. They even got delivered in the middle of the night.

They did huh!

It's only USPS having problems. I've had no issues with both FedEx and UPS.

If it’s USPS, that’s the norm for right now unfortunately. It’ll get there, albeit slowly

If it hit Greensboro, you're screwed. I've lost several packages there, and had several others swirl the bowl for weeks. I have some 32 round promags for my P320 that have been circling in and out of Greensboro for a week. It's gone in, departed, arrived, departed, etc.... but it's STILL IN GREENSBORO!

Good luck!

Gal friend ordered a package in mid-July from Illinois. It made it to Greensboro and was never seen again. Seller refunded payment. Fast forward to last week.....package arrived. She let the seller know and sent a check.

What I can't understand the most is every time a packages moves from one location to another it is scanned. I've got 3-4 late right now coming and going. Some over 4 weeks old with no info since the original scan or maybe the 1st location the package got to. Are all of our lost packages just sitting somewhere? WTF? None of the ones I have late have any info added in the last 3 weeks.

I have Priority mail sent last Monday still in Transit. I ordered a gun from Arizona last Saturday, it shipped Monday, I had it On The Range Tuesday.....Fedx

I refuse to use anything but UPS/FedEx for guns. I’ve had to pay a bit extra asking for them specifically, well worth it to me.

As a shipper we have done something similar to this for 2 packages. Both had been off the grid for a week or more. Within a couple days of sending a request both are now moving again.

Also, I have shipped over 40 holsters for Christmas. Nearly all have been delayed. All were USPS priority.

Thanks for this suggestion. I had stamps mailed to me 11/28 by USPS, sat in Raleigh near me for exactly two weeks, then inexplicably to G’boro where they have been awol since 12/14.

And a Glock Slide in a priority mail box that the USPS tracking acknowledged they accepted the day I dropped it off on12/11, and then radio silence.

Actually, I guess I should thank YOU! We’ll see what happens. I’m gonna use this to help one of my boys chase down some missing parcels as well.

The PO is swamped. COVID is a big factor. Christmas packages that were hand delivered during visits are now in the mail. Shopping has been mostly online. PO told me there was a big uptick in groceries online too. Local PO told me they sent volunteers to help with the Charlotte Center overload. They said it was mountains of packages. Personally, had a couple of packages go into tracking limbo too. Got them over a week late.

I filled out the missing package form yesterday, just checked and the status has been updated as arrived in Raleigh. First status update since December 6th. Coincidence? Idk but fingers crossed the package delivers by Thursday. It shipped from Arizona November 30th.

At the same time UPS has managed to get all my shipments to me on time, last one was a day early in fact. They’re all swamped but the USPS is about as inefficient as they come, I used to work for them and it blew my mind the mentality and decision making that happens there.

I’ve got two packages in limbo. One I ordered via Amazon on Nov 25th. “Shipped” USPS and still says status: shipping label created. Amazon wouldn’t do a thing until the 18th and then I contacted seller and saud either ship it ASAP or refund my money. Now Amazon says I got to give them three days at least. I’m about ready to say screw their policy and refute the charge via my credit Union (card).

The other is the Pitboss smoker. Supposed to have gone out FedEx a week ago Monday on the 14th. Says “shipping label created”. Pittboss says FedEx isn’t sending enough trucks for them to make the shipment.

Somebody posted a thread not too long ago about getting blacklisted by a seller because of this. I can’t remember if it was somebody big like Bezos, or a smaller seller. Just a heads up.
