I have been a Smith dude since I got into firearms. Always carried an m&p. For the last 3 or 4 years its been a 2.0 compact that has been my go to. Super reliable, good shooter and sleek looking.

I just got my first Glock (19) and I don't know how to feel. Because I think I already like it better than my m&p and I really, really did not want to. I thought all the Glock love was just band-waggoning, (and I still think some of it is), but I am impressed. For me, it presents very naturally. I was worried about switching grip angles, but have found it not to be a problem. I haven't run it super hard yet, but with what I have done, and through dry firing... I think I'll drink the Kool Aid.

Glocks are like all great myths. Some truths mixed with someone’s embellishments. Been carrying one since 1998, they are a solid choice for defensive purposes. But there is some kool aid mixed in for sure.

I have more Glocks than anything else. I shoot them well but have developed a rule, every Glock I own immediately gets a new trigger connecter and Ameriglo hackathorn sights. Those are easy and relatively inexpensive changes that make a huge difference in my accuracy. I shoot stock Glock ok but after the enhancements it's a whole different level in my experience. I have used the Ghost and Double Diamond connectors and they both work great.

I was raised on SSA’s, Berreta’s and 1911’s. I shot and carried an FS 92and 1911 very well and thought that I always wanted a hammered gun. I carried an M-9 in combat, and concealed, it seemed like forever. When I retired, I went to work for a friend of mine who opened a Virtual Range. The Glock 17 worked the best so I spent hours getting used to it. It always presented high, and I could feel it in my shoulder when I shot it. It seemed unnatural to me. As I shot it more, I came to like it better, so I bought a G17. Then I bought a G19, a G21, another G21, another G19 MOS, a G41 MOS, a G42, a G43, a G22, a G17 MOS, a…you get the picture. For me, it was a matter of practical application. Lighter, smaller, more rounds, cheaper mags, easier to add triggers, sights, barrels and a ton cheaper than even a mediocre 1911! I still carry a G19 MOS in my rucksack in the vehicle, but I’ve changed up a little with my G43. I no longer carry it. I’ve switched to a Springfield Hellcat with optics. Same size, almost same weight, 15 rounds compared with 6, and it feels good. To me, it’s about evolution. What works for me today may not work tomorrow or there may be a better solution. I’m still not a Glock fanboy, as I have other guns that I’ve done the same with, and still shoot rather well, with rather well being the optimal word. I’ve found as I get older, to stick with what I’m carrying and shoot it really well. I still take quite a few with me on range days, but really hammer on the ones that I carry with and don’t get wrapped around the axle if I don’t shoot something else as well. I’ve bought a couple Wilson Combat 1911s. I love them, but can’t shoot them worth a crap! I don’t invest the time in them because I don’t carry a $3k plus gun as an EDC. I just like good gear.

Agreed. I like to keep my carry guns mostly stock, but those plastic sites were off and replaced with night sights before I even left the gun store.

It's honestly pretty ridiculous that glock still uses the polymer sights. For 500 bucks I am not expecting night sights stick but plain white Novak style sights I dont think is too much to ask from "glock perfection." Honestly it's one of the reasons I stayed away from glock so long- m&p's are truly good to go out of the box.

The question is which gun points the most natural for you. M&P is spot on, while with the glock always points too high for me. Grip angle angle was the difference.
I was always struggling with micro adjustments on sight picture on my m&p. Picked up a glock and the after a few presentations, the glock sight picture was tighter than my m&p. That was really the factor that sealed the deal for me.

I think that's the way to go, especially with carry guns. Find one that is reliable and works for you and run it until you can run it blind folded.

How do you like the hellcat and what optic are you running?

I have yet to move into optics on pistols bc it seems too expensive to get into.

I’ve tried the M&P’s, and always got rid of them. They feel better, point more naturally dry firing, than a Glock. But, when I ran them on a timer, or ran them real hard training, Glock was better every time. I absolutely hated the stock trigger on my M&P’s, and tried the Apex stuff, but still, at speed, the Glock was better for me. So, I stick to a RMR’d 19, or a 48 for daily carry.

I’ve had this exact experience.

Ergos are great on M&P’s. Bought an M&P 9 1.0 a few years ago and put another $500 in it. Apex FSS trigger, sights, etc.
Sold it.
Then bought an M&P 9 2.0 Pro. Put another Apex FSS trigger in it. Holosun dot, etc..
Sold it.

Glocks just put rounds on target better for me. And I’m not a Glock lover. I just dislike them less than everything else I’ve tried.

I don't think it's all or nothing.
I shoot Glocks fine, pretty quick and fairly accurate. Competed with a couple. They're kinda ubiquitous, so I'll keep a few.
I like the feel of M&Ps better, both gens, really like the 2.0. Shoot them fine, carry one. If I was gonna get a gaggle of some modern duty gun I'd lean that way.

I started out with Glock. I bought many HKs and Sigs but never found them to be a better option to carry instead of my glocks... and this is before I knew that people just loved to hate glocks. I do enjoy shooting my USP 45, but I'm not carrying it instead of the G21. I don't want or need a thumb safety and don't want a grip safety on my carry or HD pistols.

I have a friend in LE that bashed my glocks for decades and when he finally shot mine he was impressed. And the next time he shows up, his carry pistol is a G23.

I like the stock glock night sights, but if they don't have them I'll use my tool and put either trijicon's, ameriglo or night fision sights on instead of the stock plastic sight. For suppressors I'll get a KKM or LW barrel. I never mess with the triggers. I have a few MOS for RDS and it's pretty simple to do yourself. I know a lot of people like to upgrade almost everything, but I've never been into that, not that I have anything against the people that do.

I’ve gone the other way kind of. Started out with Glocks, and I still like them and won’t ever get rid of them as I just have too much invested in the platform, but I got an M&P few years back and I really liked it, then I picked up a 2.0 compact and I prefer it to a 19. Now I’m more of a fan of sig 320’s than the Glock or M&P, and I might even like my FN509 even better than all of them, but variety is the spice of life.

I’m running the stock optic right now but I’ll probably change it to a more reliable Trijicon in the near future. Yes, pistol optics can and are expensive but, it does make it easier to acquire the target, stay on target, and they make me a better shooter. And it’s only your life if you find you really need a weapon and skills, so what value do you place on your life? I was doing some tactical training when I first retired from the army and had a class of women. I was explaining about practicing clearing clothing with a concealed weapon in front of a mirror a couple times a week. I had a woman ask me if I did that every week, as it seemed excessive. I told her only the weeks that I want to survive. When you look at it from that standpoint, pistol optics are a cheap investment.

Seems like I'm playing the same game everyone else already has lol. I started with Glock then went into some metal framed guns. Last year I went from a p10c Glock 19 poly80 g19 to an m&p 2.0 (there's a sig in there somewhere but I'd like to forget that mistake and not relive it)

I've put all my eggs into the m&p "duty" setup now. OP I'd recommend trying a p10c before you jump ship to glock. One of the best out of the box striker polymer gun triggers I've ever felt. I personally sold the gun because of how my trigger finger fell down to the bottom of the shoe and would get pinched between the trigger and the trigger guard. Really petty excuse to sell a gun I know. At extended distances I seem to shoot m&p and czp10c much better than a Glock. I haven't felt gen 5 aftermarket triggers but my Zev gen 3 still felt like crap and I couldn't squeeze as much accuracy out of it as I'd like (when compared to competition)

I still kick around a poly 80 because Glock mags are stupid cheap and parts are everywhere.

The biggest reason I really would only consider glock or m&p for a carry piece besides the fact that I trust them is the availability of mags. I realize I'm hedging on a scenario that will never happen but, should the need arise, I like that I carry a weapon a lot of other people will have the mags for and in a caliber that is widely available.

I think putting all your "eggs" in one basket is the way to go for carry or duty weapons. Anything you are actually planning on putting down threats and defending your life with.

"Glock Perfection" then go and change everything on it to higher quality parts. That's why I dislike Glock. If they came to market $100 less then maybe.

But I have owned them and switched to M&P. Tried of every Glock having to switch sights and trigger. And adding something to the grip for hold.

Totally agree. M&p are actually ready out of the box.

Yeah that makes sense, I haven't been able to stockpile m&p mags myself but I have 9 cz mags (my carry gun) Glock pmags actually are fairly reliable in my experience. And I think they are $10 now?

Sounds like if you jump to glock there's quite a few of us that will want to pick up the ashes from your first love 😂

If you have a decent bolt action rifle you can acquire the guns to go with whatever magazines those people have.
