Went by there on the way home from my cas match today. We cut it short due to the cold and wind chill. Mackeys is a huge store that at one time had thousands and thousands of firearms and reloading supplies. There were of course no primers but also NO powder at all or any muzzleloading components. They did have some brass and some loaded ammo. Firearms were spotty with a bunch of Henry rifles, cheap .22 sa’s, lots of plastic semi pistols, no marlin levers, not s lot of S&W or Colt revolvers, a few older pieces, a few milsurp rifles, plenty of black rifles and boltguns. I didn’t bother to go to the sg section. Mackeys tends to be pricey so the only thing I’ve ever got there was powder, they used to have an excellent powder selection. If you’re looking for something in particular call before you go out there. Stay safe.

I used to go to Mackey’s regularly when I was down east for work 15-20 years ago. What a treat it was. Hundreds of vintage firearms. Bought quite a few there and there were some decent deals to be had. Always had a good chat with the owner.

Used to drive by often but stopped rarely. Great place to handle things you were considering buying.

I think all the money they saved on the location they put into inventory. They used to be located in a place called Mackey's which is even smaller than Pea Ridge that @fieldgrade was interested in.

Mackeys was a great place 6-7 years ago. Pistols cases had guns stacked on top of each other. All the long gun racks stayed full. More ammo and reloading supplies than I’d ever seen. In its day, it put Mid South in Wagram to shame. Sadly they’re a product of their own high prices, and the firearms market the last couple years.

Mackeys I agree had more inventory before the pandemic and always been a little high. I like the shotgun inventory they have and this fall they had hunting rifle ammo when nobody else did I will say I bought alot

I’ve been by there a couple times on the way to OBX. They have lots of stuff then. I bought some magazines and ammo while I was there. You never take enough ammo on trips.

I have never had their boiled peanuts but get my wife some blister fried peanuts whenever I go by there.

Never had, nor heard of, any blister fried peanuts. But boiled peanuts are awesome.

Where can I find blister fried peanuts?

Order some from the peanut place next to the gun store. I will look for the address.

edit; Mackeys Ferry Peanuts and Gifts. Google them.

I'll take you there Chief. We can do the gun store too.

There used to be an interesting restaurant down on the river in Jamesville that served shad and other seafood this time of the year. It is worth a try if you can find it.

Always stopped on the way back from duck hunting down on the OBX. I dont think I ever bought a thing in 20yrs. I took a bud of mine down there after he had prostate removed. He wanted a shotgun they had bad. Remington 1100 with english stock and short bbl. Couldnt hit s#it with it. Always liked looking thru their inventory.

From what I’ve been told, the prices displayed at Mackey’s include sales tax. Not sure on that, have never purchased from there before.

They do, or at least did the last time I was there. Usually a friendly " what can you do on this?" will get you 10% off.

My same exact experience. Stop on the way back from duck hunts if we can. But prices always seemed a bit extreme, but it was nice seeing the larger selection. Not many stores within quick distance of Winston with that much stuff.

There was a sandwich shop in downtown Lafayette, Indiana back when I was in college that was priced this way. If the menu said $4, that's what you paid. Taxes were included.

The guy that ran it made the best roast beef french dip sandwich I've ever had. I spent a significant chunk of my money on them.

After driving by for years, finally stopped yesterday...while prices are a bit high on some rifles, shotgun prices were competitive...and the inventory volume was overwhelming. I wandered around for an over an hour, but finally decided NOT to drop $14K on an original 1866 Sharps. An incredible inventory, and the nice lady behind the counter told me they currently had 5,000+ firearms in stock.

any reloading supplies

They are the rudest, most impersonal business people I've ever met. I've been in there 3 times and 2 of those times was insulted in one way or another by the taller, slimmer guy that works there and the 3rd time witnessed the shorter fatso talk down to a female customer.
The last time skinny-man insulted me the whole store ended up hearing about it when I was done with him. I honestly don't know how they stay in business.
I wouldn't buy a fire extinguisher from them if it were 50% off and my pants were on fire. Bitches.
I don't intend to go there again.

15 years ago, it was the place to go. Friends of mine and myself used to go to williamston to fish the Roanoke for catfish and bowfin. We would always go to Mackeys Landing the day we were gonna head home. I saw guns in there I had only seen in movies . Bought tons of reloading stuff from there to take home with us. In my opinion it’s a shell of what it used to be. We stopped there a couple years ago on the way to the outer banks, and what the place had become, saddened me. I doubt I’ll ever go back.

I need to go back. Just remember a few years ago almost all gun shops were just a shell of what they were. no primers no powder and very few gun available to buy anywhere

Yeah, but I don't recall any of the other shops' staff becoming professional assholes. Bless those poor 2 ladies that work there - they're polite and helpful. It's mainly that one probably 60 yr old guy that's the problem.

I have never had a negative experience with the staff there. However it has probably been 8 years since I have visited.

There are plenty of gun shops with rude staff. Not that it's a defense, but they're hardly unique in having a couple of crusty old farts acting like jerks to the customers.

But they ARE unique. I've been buying and selling guns since the 1980's and have been in shops from California to North Carolina and everywhere in-between. I've met some crusty characters, but they take the cake.
