Did some cleaning up in a cabinet today, found some mags new in the wrapper, took em out and loaded em. Lead me to thinking how many mags is enough? Just curious as to yalls thoughts

I have like 25-30 and I feel that I need to keep buying them. I think I’m gonna buy like 5 a month for the foreseeable future.
Kinda in the same boat, somewhere between 20-30 and torn between more mags or more ammo.

I pick up mags when I find a deal I can't pass up. Got around 40 ar15 mags from 10 rounders to 60 rounders. I only keep a few 30 rounders and 10 rounders loaded. And have givin away alot to friends and family. Even buy mags for guns I don't own or plan to own if there popular firearms and the deal is right. And that's cause they make good trade fodder down the road.

Buy the mags when you can get them for a good price then buy the ammo to fill the mags later. Buy the ammo when you can get a good price and then buy mags later. Little by little is how a lot of people do it most can’t afford to buy a whole lot of stuff in true bulk quantities. In other words it doesn’t matter whether you buy mags or ammo first unless you really need one or the other then obviously you have a priority.

I stopped counting at fifty, for both my ARs, and AK.
Best guess for each is 100+, near 200 would be a better estimate.
For handguns, anything less than 5 isn't enough.
For other long guns, say AR10, I think I have around 30, the M1A, probably 25 or more, and the Garand, over a thousand clips, probably more.
Just depends on ones definition of enough.

Depends on how many ARs you have. I have about 20 for 2 ARs and it's what I want for those two guns.

What is this "enough" you speak of?

Kinda like when they ask a public school official how much more of a budget do they need. More, it’s always more. I used to say you can’t have too much money, too much horsepower or too many friends. I have added ammo and mags to that.

Standard infantry load out is 7 mags 210 rounds of ammunition. Anyone who has ever been in a firefight knows that does not last long. Have as many loaded as you can comfortably carry in case of emergency. Have that many more ready for resupply . Any more than that is welcome as well.

And psa has em on sale for 10 for $90 free shipping

If you can afford to buy a lot of mags for each gun, you don't have enough guns
that being said... you should have enough for each. and that's wildly dependent on your personal finances and your intended use for those guns.
some cheap plinkers, 1-2 mags. Some guns I use and have other guns in the family that can share parts... more. considerably more.

I usually like to have at least 4 each since that's the max number of shooters I can have at my club but have exceeded that by a lot for my AR and AK.

I don't have many, maybe 10 for each gun at most. More than I can carry.
5-7 for pistols depending on use and capacity.

I have no idea how many I have. I was rummaging through my shed last week and found a bunch in a liquor box. I was moving stuff in my storage room and found another box of mags. Funny how things accumulate.

My answer is "It depends".

On my ARs/AK I get as many as I can when on sale. I really dont know how many I have as I buy them here and there when i see them on sale.

For collectors items/carry pistols/plinkers, then I usually just keep a few extra. Most of my pistols have pretty expensive magazines, so collecting more than 3-4 is painful.

My minimum magazine amount is calculated by the number of magazines I need in order to fill them by full box amounts.

For our M&P-15's, which have 30 round magazines, that means the minimum is two magazines (three full 20 round boxes of ammo).

I don't like having partial boxes of ammo, or loose rounds of ammo, left over when I load everything up.

My Colt 1991A1 has 7 magazines minimum. That's one 50 round box, with one in the chamber.

It's a general rule of thumb, which doesn't always add up exactly.

The other requirement is to be able to load up enough magazines ahead of time before hitting the range in order to spend more time shooting and less time reloading.

Other than a couple rimfire bolt guns, I can’t remember the last time I loaded a mag at the range. That means I have enough, for now. And I still have some in the wrappers.

With the exception of the first time I took my Rock 57 out last year and didn’t have many mags. I can now shoot 206 rounds before having to load a mag for it. At the price of that ammo, I won’t need to do that. 🤣

I don't know...
Here's. a mag, there's a mag, everywhere a mag, mag.
Honestly haven't counted

How.many is enuff? I don't know

My head hurts.

Got ammo cans full of M16 / M14 mags, my mentor made sure I had plenty.

With the toys believe there's an adequate number
But...can one ever have enuff?

-Snoopz .

Then again I just bring ammo cans

I stumbled across a box of 80 AR mags the other day, they were sitting under a case of N95 masks and on top of a box with an embarrassing number of AR triggers. The platform really is like legos.

Pistol mags, horde those too. I believe that one day we’ll be unable to purchase normal capacity magazines.

I don't buy a handgun if I can't commit to 5 mags, or a rifle if I can't commit to 10; 500rds of ammo, a light, and optic. Regardless of if I have other compatible mags.

It's really easy to buy a gun, it's the other stuff you "need" that adds up. My personal rule helps me from spending too wildly. Only exception would be if I found some stupid good deal in the BST.

For typical use, I don't need more than 3 mags per gun. I have time to reload them during normal shooting.
But, for any type of SHTF many more are needed.
I have 10 loaded, in two plastic ammo cans, stored in different locations on my property.
And I just remembered, 3 more loaded in my gun safe.
Plus 3 mags per gun.

So, it will be nice to have at least 5+3 loaded and at my side for an event. But that won't last long, if I have a break in the action, I will need to reload mags before they run out. More is better. I have lots of ammo, but only that many mags... right now.

AR - Maybe 30 total. Maybe just under.
Other things it's less
Like booger said, some of the mags get pricey, so only have a handful of the HK stuff

Hmmm if 80 mags isn't enough to comment on, I can only wonder what an embarrassing number of AR triggers must be.

Not long ago I found a box, a small one mind you, of AK rate reducers from years ago. I guess that was kind of embarrassing, but for different reasons. I made sure to lose them again. For safety's sake.
