Purchased a cellphone off a member here a while back to keep in my 2nd car, an iphone. Ive had an issue with the lightning cable staying plugged in, much movement and it falls out...oh I wish they still used teh old 30 pin style, those had the two little 'clips' that kept it secured.

So right now Im printing a 'cable saver,' some thing that goes on a cable so it doesnt flexx as much and is supposed to help prevent the end from breaking off. Ok. But my idea, and this is what I wanted to talk to you about, was maybe gluing a very small (3mm) magnet on the side that would keep the charger stuck to the phone's body.
Would that work?
Would that cause issues?

I know that a magnet would be bad for the screen, but the body at the bottom?

I appreciate any help you can give, thanks yalll

For the cable saver part you could also try this from Amazon

Lightning Charger Cable Saver | MacBook iPhone Micro USB Protector | PC/Notebook Charging Cable Saver. Snug Fit for All Cell Phones, (Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073QMLS5V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_P8p-FbK0RRQHV

And maybe some hack with velco if you have any extra pieces lying around in the home to keep it in position.

A commercial electromagnet might cause some issues but any “normal” magnet shouldn’t impact anything. The new charges are magnetic.

well Im already printing a cable saver, so no need to buy. Didnt think about velcro, but not sure where I could put it and it stay out of the way for easy use.

Yeah, Im just looking at using some basic magnets fromt he hobby shop, nothign special

I have strip magnets on the back of my work phone so I can leave it on panels while I’m working. It will screw with the magnetometer if you’re trying to orient yourself but no problems otherwise.

Unless you had super duper neodidlium magnets you’re fine.

Magnets shouldn’t be bad for new screens like they were with CRTs

thanks for the info

Have you looked in the charging port and made sure it’s not packed with dust/pocket lint? The only time I have ever seen the charging cable on iPhones not staying in it was because of this. Mines done it and I have solved several peoples problems with a paper clip and scraping it out or a can of air.

It'll go in and connect, but if I were to pick the phone up the cord would just drop out
I will look into that though

I had something like this in mind when I suggested the Velcro option. I got this double sided velcro from Anker for charging cables.

Depending on what version it is you might could ditch the cable for a wireless charger. The mount I have in my work truck is also a wireless charger.

take a toothpick and move it around up in the charging port. I had a issue with my older iphone and i thought the port had worn out. I had even shined a light up inside of it and didnt see anything but once i used a toothpick i realized how much gunk was actually inside of it. it then went back to normal.

Cable is key for linking to the headunit in the car

That’s not a bad idea. I bought a couple small rolls of that double sided Velcro (aka one-wrap) for cable management around the house. I think it’s like $7 at Lowe’s.

Also, check your cable. There's genuine ones, good ones, and cheap(bad ones), that aren't made up to spec. Which cable do you have?

Magnets won't hurt the phone. I use magnetic mounts in both of my cars. The one in the truck is so strong you have to slide the phone sideways to get it off or it pulls the vent baffles out of the dash.

I started using magnetic cables when the charging port started to get loose. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081D6RTT7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The guy at Best Buy said that they can't replace a charging port and i'd have to get a new phone so this is it for a while.

Probably just some cheap ones off Amazon

Or do what I do....use a rubber band. Loop around the cable behind the connector and stretch it over the top of the phone.
