2 years after announcement, and a year on backorder.... the stock arrived!

That bipod mounted on a rail section is just for the photos, I've since replaced it with a proper mount that's nice and solid.

Took it to the range and using my 77gr handloads I was getting 3 shot group averages of.... 0.55" at 100 yards. Seems awesome, until I looked at the last data I had from 2021 which shows 3 shot group averages of... 0.50" at 100.

So at first I was bummed, I mean this stock is so much more rigid than the OEM it should nullify some bad technique and give me some improvement. Then I realized that I hadn't actually done any 'precision' shooting since 2021, so after over a year of not doing it somehow my skill has not degraded much at all? I think the stock is helping and groups should go down just a touch with practice. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself to justify keeping it. :)

Where did you order from? I want one for my 300 BO

Nevermind. I just ordered one in FDE directly from Magpul.

Thanks for the update @Jayne

That's a cool stock. I may have gone in that direction instead of my first attempt at painting one camo (I don't like camouflage, but I like it better than 'coyote').

Looks great man! I'd consider it a very worthwhile upgrade. I'm sure it'll tighten up that much more when you get back into precision shooting again. And besides, 0.55 MOA is still nothing to sneeze at!

It took a lot of load fiddling to get there, but it was worth it. I only have 20 rounds of that 77gr load left from 2021, but now I'm motivated to prep some brass and make more.

I eventually warmed up to the color on the Ruger, almost ordered an FDE magpul instead of the black but then came to my senses at the last minute. Sadly @Lucky63 has succumb to the poop brown clan....

I have a Troy M1A chasis that's tan, or whatever the name is these days. I've been on the fence about installing it or selling it - mostly because of the color! LOL.

I painted my stock (.300), didn't come out great, but I like it better than the tan/coyote/FDE, etc.

Any RAR owners here have experience with the Sharps Bros. Heatseeker chassis? Would love to see comparison of it vs the magpul and if it's worth the $100 er so extra bucks.

Glad to see Magpul finally get this version avaliable!

That's a nice looking chassis, but it's more than $150 more than the magpul before you add the grip and stock. I'm sure you could use A2 castoff parts to finish it up cheap but who's going to do that?

Still, someone should get one and check it out.

I've had one sitting in a cart for a while now, with a current promo code and some bonus bucks, sans furniture, would get it below $100 over the magpul.

It would take some time but I may volunteer as the guinea pig to try them both in tandem since I have 2 of these rifles 🤔

Good grief, you'd have more in that chassis by the time you were done than in the rifle.

I’d say your group changing 5 hundredths of an inch isn’t anything to worry about, especially when you’re doing it with a Ruger American and it’s shooting 1/2”. Temperature or pressure that day could be enough difference from your initial grouping

If it was an F Class rifle I’d be passing you tissues and a new barrel

Yeah that's the way she goes, on my .300blk I have a optic that's twice the value of the unit, consider the can and muzzle device on the end and we're north of 4x the value in attachments alone, might as well keep up the momentum 😉

That's always the way, the rifle is cheap, the chassis and glass are not.

An optic is a little different, it adds to the rifle's ability.
I find it hard to believe $500 worth of stock will add $500 worth of value or accuracy. It might add weight.
My x39 rifle shoots great with the factory stock, good enough for anything I'm going to do with it.
If you want a precision rifle, get a precision rifle. My feeling is a cheap bolt action with an expensive chassis is a "lipstick on a pig" kind of situation.

Just semantics here but it'll be $380.86 shipped so it's a little easier to stomach. I don't have a problem with how either of mine shoot, but spending money is my middle name and putting expensive crap on cheap rifles is my game.

You do you my man.

Nice! Will this stock convert my RA Ranch from Ruger mags to AR mags?
No, I called Ruger to find out if I could order one of their stocks or use the Magpul. They said no because the bolt was machined differently to pick up the rounds out of the rotary mags. I’ve been on the fence about selling my 300 BO with rotary mags and upgrade.

I have one of each- for hunting, I prefer the flush mag, for range work, the magazine version.

Yeah Lucky63 posted the answer above. I can't think of any reason AR mags would be better beyond the cool factor and the possibility of losing the proprietary mag. I should just buy a spare one of those, it's a lot cheaper than swapping or trying to change mine.

especially when you’re doing it with a Ruger American and it’s shooting 1/2”.

Someone asked about the load, for anyone else who is into that sort of thing:

22.3gr Benchmark
WSR
77gr Sierra SMK-C (cannelure if I can find them)
2.210 OAL
I'm using once fired FC brass to start and after it's been reloaded and fired once in the Ruger I trim it and neck size only from then out. I do trickle charge every round, but haven't gotten to weight sorting the brass or projectiles (yet).

I'm playing all the precision rifle games as best I can in terms of bipod loading, doing the eyes-closed natural point of aim check, breathing, etc. Seated at a bench, rear squeeze bag, yada yada.

Run-and-gun with a 30rnd pmag in there, come on, you know you want to do it.

I've got a bunch of shorty mags for it and am only loading 3-5 at a time at most but for some reason the AR mags are just.... cool. In the field though the flush mags seem like they would catch on less and be lighter overall without all the mag well stuff on there.

Do you have any 10 round mags?
If so, where did you get them?
I want some for a MVP.

Or

I also use a couple of these that blend in pretty well with the Ruger & my Doo Doo brown SBR.

I've used both the lancer and the pmags that lucky listed, they both work just fine in the ruger. Also have tried the GI style 20 rounders, but they hang up a bit.

Just did a swap. I really like this stock and thanks @Jayne for the heads up. I had practically forgot/given up on these being available.

Magazines sit much tighter than the Ruger stock. The factory stock would let the mag wobble front to back. That has been resolved now 😉. Just ordered a Timney trigger for it & I need to figure how I will sling it. Thinking of keeping it old school with regular swivels and leather sling.

AR mag fed, plastic stock... and a leather sling? I don't think that's legal.
Well I may scrap that idea anyways. Looks like a Type 2 qd socket is going to be ordered & I already have a bunch of MLOK qd mounts. I’m also going to grab a MLOK bipod adapter. $1000 gun from a $300 barreled action 😂😂

What is better to lock into than a properly set up 1917 sling?
