magpul stock for the Ruger American Ranch w/AR mags arrived!

Got everything installed except a front QD sling mount. I have it, just forgot to mount it.

Type 1 & 2 QD sockets for the rear, bipod mount, & Timney trigger. I set the trigger to 2.5 lbs according to my Wheeler trigger pull scale. No creep or pre-travel. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

Finally got a moment this evening to install the Heatseeker chassis and do some shooting with it. Decided to put it on my 7.62x39 model since it works with x39 AR mags also and I have no other mini 30 mags than the factory 5rd, this being possibly the greatest benefit of the chassis if you're like me and have them hanging around! Put my floater red dot on while i decide on a stock and optic set up with the profile change. Definitely an increase in weight but not enough for me to complain, very solid fit and finish. Increase in metallic noise while working the action, so if you have a .300blk model and shoot subs suppressed, this won't help your case in the noisy action department.

Overall for a final cost of $380 shipped, not a bad option to fill that tacticool tendency you may or may not suffer from šŸ˜€

So, does the stock work with the old rifles that took the Ruger plastic mags or just the new ones that are AR mag compatible? Iā€™ve got one of each and want the ability to use AR mags.

as noted earlier, the STANAG style Ruger Americans use a different bolt thatā€™s compatible with AR mags. The older style with rotary Ruger mags uses a bolt that feeds from the center more like other conveytional push feed bolts. That style would not work with a STANAG magazine regardless of stock design.

now the heat seeker setup above suggests that the Ruger stock might work on a RAR in 7.62x39 allowing user to switch from Ruger mini 30 mags to a 7.62x39 AR magazine, which arenā€™t perfect but theyā€™re cheaper and easier to get.

Correct, in my research prior to ordering I watched a video of one of the Sharps Bros. Owner's installing the chassis and he makes the claim that is does make Mini 30 mag models compatible with the AR pattern counterpart. And it does just that, using only Duramag and ASC x39 mags in 10, 20, 28 and 30 this evening, I fired a 10 rounds each from a 30 & 28 with no issue and a single 10 & 20 to completion.

ASC and Duramag x39 mags are the only brands that have worked out well for me and the only brands I suggest for both simi autos and now 7.62x39 RAR.

I have an OD green Ruger stock on its way for my American predator in 223. Ordered it in like January 2022. Good lord. Anyway Iā€™m looking forward to swapping out the fairly awful Ruger OEM stock. the rifle has been surprisingly accurate and ridiculously quiet suppressed thanks to that 22ā€ barrel. My only gripe with the rifle was the rough surfaces on under side of the bolt would tear the crap out of rounds in the magazine. The brass would get shredded by the sharp steel surfaces sliding forward and aft. So I polished off those edges which was an easy fix and saved my brass so itā€™s it good shape after firing.

my ASC 7.62x39 mags have been inconsistent. They seem to have different spring tensions and feed lip geometry. in the AR they would occasionally misfeed. In fairness theyā€™re like 6+ years old so maybe ASC improved them. The Duramag 10 and 20 rd mags have always been my preference. Havenā€™t played with the 28 rd version but was never too interested given how they might fit oddly w a mag carrier.

Interesting but not surprising šŸ˜†, I have ASC 10 & 20, Duramag 20, 28 and 30. I don't have many rounds behind the ASC 10's but their 20's have been good to me, so far. Duramag 28's are outstanding as my most used and as such, most consistent. Up until today, all of my experience has been with various manufacturer AR upper receivers and twin build spec lowers.

I have had issues with the notorious and aggressively curved 30's. I have no rhyme or reason to ammo case type or gr weight, but typically it is tula 122gr fmj or Norma 124gr brass case, malfunctions I've witnessed lead me to blame the single 30rd magazine I still own.

I want to convert my .223 predator to the ai style mag well. I honestly donā€™t like the ar mag except for it feeds good on mine. I want to be able to seat the bullets farther out than I can with an asc mag. Mine shoots 80gr matchkings real good but have to single load them.

Anyone have a lead on a flat, hard buttplate for the original stock? I find I don't really like the rubber and it adds unnecessary length.

Just fyi, these are on sale at Brownellā€™s currently. Cart it and wait a couple days and they send you a $30 off cart, CART30 code to. Had a gift certificate and just grabbed one for $136.

Hereā€™s my 7.62x39 feeding from a .223/5.56/300Blk magwell from ruger. Mags I use are the Unimags (pictured) and 10rnd CProducts. The Unimags hold 25 rnds and give it a more, normal look. I bought a ton of these, but they are no longer made.

It wears a Strike Eagle Gen 2 1-8, an ASR flash hider for my Omega 36M and a cheapo cheek riser.

Bumping this thread because my magpul mag1207 STANAG stock has worked great on my predator 223 model. the magpul website claims itā€™s not compatible with the 7.62x39 rifle due to the mini 30 mags, but as expected people are writing that it works fine once one switches to stanag type 7.62x39 Mags. So I ordered another mag1207 stock and will post again once I have it setup. while the mini 30 mags work well, theyā€™re annoyingly expensive and donā€™t fit in mag pouches as well as a STANAG size mag, so this change should be nice and allow me to run my 7.62x39 ruger American in a 2 gun match without too much difficulty.

92G, Iā€™ve recently been running Duramags and ASC from gunmagwharehouse without issues also. I bought 10 & 20 rounders and 1 28rnd Duramag. Stay away from the 30rnd mags, they just arenā€™t dependable imo. Fyi, ASCā€™s FDE/Coyote color is a Tactical Peanut Butter look compared to the Magpul FDE color. Still like the Uni-Mag look, but these new additions are doing well.

So since I had great results with my 300 AAC, I did it again with the 5.56 ranch. Set up the new OD Green stock exactly like the FDE one along with the same Timney trigger. Took it out today for a test drive and was very pleased. I shot @ 200 yds with a Rock Jr rest and rear bag. YHM Turbo and 77 grain IMI Razorcore. IMG_1574.jpeg

These were my best and last 4-shot groups today. I only shot about 50 rounds overall.

Not to shabby for a $430 rifle, $200 stock, & $150 trigger.

I have a Troy M1A chasis that's tan, or whatever the name is these days. I've been on the fence about installing it or selling it - mostly because of the color! LOL.

I painted my stock (.300), didn't come out great, but I like it better than the tan/coyote/FDE, etc.

I may be interested in it if you get around to selling it.

I don't bump 'em much, but they're still floatin' around, for sale.....
