Welcome to our March challenge. We are going to use this target for only one month unless there is strong opposition since I am planning something a little different in April.
I got the top shot last month and so I get to pick out target. @Eric F and I have talked about getting together and going head to head at some point and even talked about some different competitions. I have never done a bench-rest Competition but think it would be fun.
We are going to be shooting the USBR Green Monster Practice Target. The real ones are a tad bigger but this is what we can do.
RULES:
- We will shoot 20 rounds at target
- you will deduct 5 points for any shot that does not hit a target.
- you get one Mulligan if you want to use it.
- Don’t miss any targets and you get 10 bonus points.
- break the line and you get the higher points. Page rips but bullet hole is under line you don’t get high points.

If we have a tie the most 10’s will win.

For any new shooter who want to join.
Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target size: standard 8 1/2 X 11 paper
- Target distance: 50 yards
- Any position you like.
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear bags, bunny ears.... all are ok
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or any optics allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- winner chooses the target and challenge for following month
- post copy of target and pictures of your rifle setup and ammo used

I shot USBR for many years. Can not even imagine doing it on 8x11 inch paper. Good luck all.

Was a really nice afternoon and got to try out our new target. I feel it was an acceptable first try. 187 was me best score. Hopefully will do a little better next time. Targets are smaller than I thought. I did switch to SK Semi-auto and shot a target with that. Only ended up with a 155 due to missing a target and taking my mulligan but also not getting the 10 point bonus.

Saw in the BST a Nice looking CZ 457 for any looking to upgrade their rig. Price wasn’t bad especially if you already have a scope you can throw on.

Had the pleasure of shooting with @Eric F this afternoon. We had a grand time and actually worked with another shooter who was looking for some tips on how to get better. We showed him the difference between CCI Standard, SK Standard and Wolf Match. The difference was obvious. He also has a 2.75 lb trigger which needs to be adjusted down. I let him see what a 6oz trigger felt like for comparison.
Here are my two best targets.
CZ 457 with Nightforce SHV scope
Ammo was SK Standard
Winds were between 5-8mph

Best score was 196

Good shooting! Mostly 9s and 10s. Going to have to handicap you somehow. Maybe you and Eric shoot with iron sights, the rest of us can use scopes! 🤣

It was a good day at the range with Amps 13. I had 3 good scores on my first run at this target. Two at 184 and one at 187, which is posted. Going to give it another run soon. This was my CZ 457, with MDT chassis and Athlon 6x24 scope. Tried SK Standard, then SK Long Range.

In case someone needs a great scope for this kind of shooting I have one for sale in the Classifieds. Sightron 10-50 X 60

Great shooting for sure @wbbh. Thanks for sharing and shooting with us. Dang fine setup. Never tried center X but hopefully I can soon. I see a new leader in our future!

gonna try a Sightron fixed 36x42 and see how it works out

I've heard good things about that scope. I am switching to discontinued Weaver T36. Very clear glass, much better than my Athlon 10-40 Argos. I'll keep the Athlon as a back up.

Not much time left. My range has been shut down but hopefully will be back up this weekend. Hoping to have my new rifle available to start plinking with. Might take a bit to dial her in though.

Bought all the parts used off RF forum. The stock and scope look like new. I was told the barrel shot well so we will find out I guess.

My Lilja barrel has shot well for me. I have the original but it was already swapped when I bought it so don’t know how much better it is over the original.

Put a scope on the other one. You may need to use it next month. Your other one may be ineligible. Hint hint…
I figured that was coming. I have a scope for the Classic, I plan for it to be my squirrel rifle. Or I can shoot the Anschutz depending on the rules.

Finally was able to take my Vudoo out to the range. Would have liked to have done some ammo testing but with this wind it just wouldn’t have been a fair test. Only shot two of our targets with a top score of 182. It’s not a top score but considering everything I didn't think it was a bad score.
Totally forgot to take a pic of rifle at the range,
Vudoo V22 w/ Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x56 glass
Ammo was SK Standard
Winds were 10-13 at times.

I have a .22 plinking rifle my wife bought. Hope to sight it in Tuesday; will try a few of these. Don't expect any of those 180+ score lol.
look forward to seeing your rifle and targets. So many variables go into having high scores. The main thing is to have fun and better yourself. Can’t put a 10/22 with thunderbolt ammo against an Anschutz shooting Midas +.

Let’s hear a little more about the rules and changes for the April challenge.
Good news! We are discussing options and I am excited to see what can be done to include more shooters in our monthly competition.

Well, I feel humbled...

I printed out the targets and took them to the range.

No score; with my 3-7x scope I couldn't even clearly make out the targets, let alone try to hit them.

I guess I could have fired blind and see if I hit anything, but decided to pass.

All you guys shooting 178 and up, massive respect.

I'll just take my popgun and go play in the corner. Lol
