Curious to see how y'all mark magazines for caliber ID....as in 5.56 VS .300 BO VS 6.5 on mags that will host all.

For my 300Blk and other calibers that use similar or same magazines as the 5.56 & .223, I just put a piece of white electrical tape on one side and write on that.
I also number the mags too, in case I have an issue with one, I know which one it was.

I use 30-round PMAGS for .223/556
30-round USGI mags for 556 green tip
20-round PMAGS for 300BO

Theoretically, I can tell what ammo I'm holding by feel.

I get different color grip tape from the sporting goods store. Write the mag number on the tape.

Since I only use .300BLK to deer hunt I have four specific mags that I use for it. Everything else is 5.56 only. Those four mags started life as sand colored 20rnd PMAGs. I then kryloned them camo with the exception of the part that is covered by the magwell. In that area I wrote .300BLK in sharpie.

Edit. Looks like this.

Anyone use a sharpie on the baseplate or something?

I use a white paint pen to write 300BLK in large block letters on both sides of several magazines I designated to that caliber. I also segregate the 300BLK magazines and ammo together in a 50-cal can marked the same way. I put my initials on all my mags with the same pen but I don't mark caliber on anything else.

That's excellent! Wish I would have thought of that before I bought a ton of 30rnd pmags.

Thanks all!
I started using a silver sharpie, just wondered if there might be a better way. I'm anal/ocd about being neat, uniform, ect....and couldn't come up with an easy way to make a sticky stencil for spraying with duracoat.

What about the thin, plastic stencils at a craft store or something?
That could at least get you numbers for marking mags that way

For awhile I only used 2 mags for 300 and those were OD green instead of black like the rest of my pmags.

Now I just wrap a piece of tape around the bottom.

5.56 is black (mainly PMags, but some D&H)
300BLK is FDE (mainly PMags, some D&H, SBR barrel is also FDE, 16" is not) [IMG2=JSON]{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"http:\/\/i751.photobucket.com\/albums\/xx151\/thegreghorton\/Mobile%20Uploads\/957B4914-99ED-4B45-B9F9-84353838279F_zpsczt0fusc.jpg"}[/IMG2]

6.8 are black D&H mags, but stenciled in OD as shown below (to match OD Magpul furniture and barrel) [IMG2=JSON]{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"http:\/\/i751.photobucket.com\/albums\/xx151\/thegreghorton\/Mobile%20Uploads\/1C5607DC-76DC-4B18-B351-E8AE8446FDD4_zpseqkfu9bn.jpg"}[/IMG2]

Here's a shot of the 6.8 before I had it cut down to 12", but it shows the Cerakoted barrel pretty good:

22LR, AR57, 9mm, and 50Beo ARs are pretty easy to notice the difference without any color-coding.

Easy. Stick to 5.56 or 7.62x51 lol. If you get those mags confused, you've got problems.

You could just schedule a day with me and I can laser engrave them for like $2 a mag but its a minimum of 20 mags. Its not logical for me to engrave 3 mags and then drive 30 minutes to the post office to make $6.

I do something different... I look at my ammo and don't put the big bullets in the gun that uses the little bullets... Never understood having caliber specific mags. Defeats the purpose of the multi-caliber platform. Basically, I don't leave 300blk loaded in mags.

Ask TSConver about it. He's an expert :)

I'm guessing this is due to some major eff up?
