Married Couple thinking of divorce to cover medical costs

Since it's a genetic disorder this has happened in their past with family as well as with this kid. Same with Downs Syndrome. Testing prior to pregnancy would have most likely told them what the odds were. Failure to obtain that pre pregnancy testing, or ignoring the results has resulted in a child they can't care for and they want to push it off on the working taxpayer.
Is it fair to the taxpayer?? No, but it's too late to turn back now..... What quality of life did they expect a child with this disorder to have?? They didn't think ahead, they just wanted to spit out a kid....... Very poor planning....

There is no pre-pregnancy testing for Down Syndrome. There are several tests available at various times and with varying degrees of accuracy prenatally, but not pre-pregnancy.

We had the tests. We knew she would be born with Down Syndrome. Wouldn't change a thing about her.....

She is a Doll!!!

That is more my line of thinking. $15k AFTER insurance is crazy. Since Obummercare, insurance covers less and less, so I’m guessing this is the result.
There is also no reason Tylenol costs $4/pill in the hospital when it’s literally pennies at most retailers. There are countless examples of insane pricing and shocking waste.

I certainly feel for the family and child but it is 100% wrong to pass that cost on tax payers. It sounds like they have to make some really tough decisions, and divorce nor life/death should be on that list.
That is what our family max out of pocket is with a silver family plan. Over $50K in out of pocket expenses over the last 4 years. Can afford anything else now. No room left on the credit cards.

What democrats want in the US is what they have in Denmark and the Netherlands. This child would simply be killed by a doctor without the parents prior knowledge or consent.
Under Oregon's medicaid plan, the only treatment the plan would cover is death. They do not cover treatment for low survival rate illnesses at all. Only death. That version of Medicaid is coming to every state that has legalized death by doctor, be it "assisted suicide" or euthanasia.

My sister spent the last 3 weeks in the hospital because her appendix burst. I asked how much that would cost, apparently nothing she has Medicaid. I mean really that shit would cost me 20% of the overall cost. Which sure as hell makes me wonder if she could have been released two weeks ago.

Depends on a lot of things as to the length of the hospital stay.

My wife went through the exact same thing. She was hospitalized for about a week after the surgery. She ended up going back to the hospital a second time due to infection.

Pre pregnancy would have to come from some family history if investigated deeply enough, once pregnant there are test obviously.
Have you given thought to her care after you and your wife are gone?? Trust accounts or something like that. Who is going to care for her??

You understand that while DS is genetic, it is NOT hereditary right? It can happen in any pregnancy.

And yes, we have and are planning for just that.

Well it doesn't help any that she weighs 350+ so when it burst it literally had lots of places to go.

:eek::eek::eek:

I could tell a story about my wife's appendix rupture but I don't want to hijack the thread. Suffice to say that we never received a bill for my wife's second week stay at Forsyth Hospital.
