Pull quote:

Just make sure that you’re not being stampeded toward a cliff, by devious political operatives who are more clever and cold-hearted than you. Remember Charlottesville, and what happened at Twin Peaks. Please think long and hard about stampeding into Richmond for what might turn out to be the mother of all buffalo jumps.

So, Matt, do you have a better idea?

Okay, we get it. Bracken thinks a mass Second Amendment rally in Richmond on Lobby Day is a bad idea. So what would you do, Matt? Roll over and surrender? Give up your guns without a fight?

Hell no. I’d continue to marshal our forces for maximum effect at local county and city council meetings. The 2A sanctuary county movement has been extremely effective at getting positive attention through this means. We should keep attending every local political meeting in force. Make your local politicos feel the heat. Keep pressing at the county and city level. Experiment with holding “unorganized militia” flash mob events. Be imaginative, and always use friendly local terrain to your advantage.

whats that saying about all evil needs to win is for good men to sit back and do nothing?

I wonder if Philip van Cleave has read this, or if perhaps Bracken has reached out to him?

He's not wrong. Bad actors WILL attend and the media propaganda machine WILL take control of the message.
IMO it will be much more effective to hold multiple concurrent local demonstrations in 2A sanctuary zones where local LE support the 2A movement.

I don't think Bracken is suggesting to "do nothing"..don't, for one second, believe he isn't incensed about what the VA governor, AG and legislature are attempting.

What I do believe is that he's cautioning folks to be smart about what they do. He's looking at the event through the eyes and the minds of the antis. Instead of flying toward the light like a moth, he's sitting back, looking at the big picture and weighing the potential negatives that could result.

He's an intelligent dude, he's done his homework and brings up some damned good points.

He's not saying "Don't fight", but "Fight smart".

Quite honestly, if you look at the map of Virginia and see how many counties, cities and towns have passed sanctuary resolutions, it says more than any rally ever could...

With the rally, you’ll have individual citizens and groups of citizens showing up to voice their displeasure. Nothing inherently wrong with that at all; the right to peaceably assemble and petition the government for redress is enshrined in the BOR, but what happens when “peaceably” exits stage left? What happens when things go sideways (they can, they do and they have)? A firecracker, car backfiring or anything similar could cause itchy trigger fingers, on both sides, to go to work.

With the sanctuary resolutions, many of them passing unanimously, it shows that local representatives are doing their job...being a voice for “the people”, even if it means defying Richmond.

That speaks volumes.

Yes, it will be quite the chore to have everyone hold rank and not over act.
The problem will be if paid bad actors attend.

VCDL Lobby Day (1/20/20)

Frequently Asked Questions

http://tiny.cc/lobbydayfaq

VCDL president, Philip Van Cleave statements:

Monday, January 20, is VCDL's Lobby Day. It is not VCDL's Protest Day.

There is a distinct difference between the two.

Lobby Day is about, well, lobbying - sending a message to the General Assembly and to the Governor, Attorney General, and the Lt. Governor. That message is simple: no more gun control that in any way, shape, or form negatively affects law-abiding gun owners. Bills that go after criminals or bills that are beneficial to gun owners are fine.

While there have been some verbal threats by the Democrat leadership to push major gun control down the throats of Virginia's gun owners and some very bad bills already filed to back up that threat, NOTHING has happened yet and won't until after January 8. And perhaps it won't happen at all, if we press hard enough.

The sanctuary movement, with its absolutely massive turnouts of gun owners, is sending a deafening message to lawmakers ahead of Lobby Day. On top of that, we now believe the size of the crowd on Lobby Day could be absolutely incredible, possibly historic, if gun owners from around the state follow through and attend as we believe they will. You will absolutely want to be a part of this!

Militias

Various militia groups from Virginia and nearby states have graciously volunteered to provide security. With a large Capitol, Richmond, and State police presence, not to mention enough citizens armed with handguns to take over a modern mid-sized country, we have the security base covered nicely. That said, we welcome our militia brothers and sisters to be part of making the day a success! Some militia groups are looking to take canned food donations during Lobby Day and deliver them to a Richmond Food Bank.

Long Guns

If you are asking how you can help with VCDL's mission, carrying long guns at Lobby Day is not helpful - it is a distraction. VCDL's important messages inevitably get lost as the press rushes to get pictures of anyone carrying an AR or AK. The stories then become about the rifle, not VCDL's agenda. You can set your watch by it. Long guns are not easy to carry in a crowd, either. VCDL needs its voice heard loud and clear in order to able to stop the onslaught of gun-control bills.

Laws you need to know for carry in Richmond

You can't have a magazine in a centerfire rifle or pistol that holds more than 20 rounds unless you have a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP). You must also have a CHP if the centerfire rifle or pistol has a threaded barrel or a folding stock. Click here to see the code section, which also covers similar restrictions on shotguns: 18.2-287.4

Open carry without a CHP is legal in Virginia, but watch the restrictions in the previous paragraph.

You need a CHP to carry in the General Assembly or Capitol Building. Once through security, you can carry openly or concealed in the buildings. You cannot carry in the gallery over the Senator Floor. Keep an eye on these alerts. Should any of this change, we will notify you here.

VCDL Lobby Day is a peaceful event about gun rights and NOTHING ELSE

We are NOT there to have arguments with the other side. They lobby, we lobby, and never the two shall meet. Just ignore them.

And we are not there to push any other agenda. Our total focus is on protecting our right to keep and bear arms. Period. This is not about flags, statues, history, etc. Just guns.

If you somehow find yourself being harassed by the other side, don't engage them. They could well be baiting you and recording what you do for propaganda purposes. If necessary, go find a police officer and let them take care of the person causing the disturbance. Otherwise, just ignore them and go about your business.

VCDL has a great relationship with the Capitol Police, the Richmond Police, the Virginia State Police, and most other law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth. We welcome their presence and are glad they are there to keep everything peaceful, while we work on the job at hand.

This should be a great event, with freedom-loving Americans from all walks of life standing should-to-should to protect our most precious civil right - the right of self-defense. See you there!

So I was keeping up with the Wilkes County/Surry County 2nd amendment facebook pages. They were talking about the Wilkes meeting, and that the large group couldnt all get into the room. Honeslty, I mentioned that I dont think the speaking part really mattered, but the fact that you had a group so large over a topic spoke more to the evening then most anything you could have said.

This is Bracken's second article along the same lines. In the first one he answered the question about what we should do instead - hold a rally where the sheriff and locals are supportive, where the local politicos won't stack the deck and LEO against you, and where instigators will be held accountable instead of disappearing into a crowd.

If it were up to me, I'd say don't go. Stay far away. I realize it's a moot point and people are going, but I'm 100% certain that paid actors will do something to paint the peaceful pro 2A folks in a bad light, and it could be anything from a simple brawl to something more in line with the NY Marathon or Charlottesville.

The thread about the NM man? The gun owner who was easily incited into a self righteous rage? We all know someone like that, they may not be a close friend, just an acquaintance, but we all know someone like that. Those guys will be there too and they will "Leroy Jenkins" the message at the drop of a hat.

Anyone remember when the Confederate flag stuff started happening a few years back, and they held a rally in Stone Mountain GA? The only picture that was widespread from that was this one:

Confederate-Flag-Rally-3-AP.jpg

Personally I try to be the gray man as much as I can in public. Am I ready to defend my rights? Sure. But inviting legal trouble in another state with less than sympathic police and paid atagonizing ain't my pig on my farm.

So, I can probably tell you how this went down....tall bearded guy, democrat, sissy, probably got all in that armed guys face, yelling, all in his personal space. Then gun guy starts to verbally push back, tall guy gets handsy, Then gun guy put hands on gun. Cause the cops just let it escalate til it about got out of control. Tall guy yelling how he is dangerous and shouldnt have a gun.... and should tolerate all his shit. Am I about right?

The way I see it, even if something bad goes down and it's used as an excuse to impose severe enforcement of 2A constraints, the real opposition to the laws will still be there, regardless.

I’d bet it went down right close to how you described it.

So ... let's not all go down to the harbour to dump out the tea because, you know, hearts and minds and the other side controlling the message? Right?

I think the democrats are just louder.....I honestly dont think they are stronger. And its not just the one issue voters about gun control. They have stepped on a lot of toes over the last 4 years and the list is long and covers a very, very large portion of the population they have offended.

My thoughts on the whole VA 'control' issue?

The va.gov will do what they want. They have lost sight that their job is to represent the people, not do what they want.
So, the laws will get passed and free people will become criminals.
Some will get charged and jailed.
Some will get injured or killed on both sides.
Then the cases will go through the courts and, hopefully, get struck.

Then it'll happen all over again. I'm ready for the dance to start now.

I think Virginia is fked if they don’t have an outrageous showing...

3AFC0AF8-87BA-4CDC-BF35-24C7E62EA891.jpeg

About as “outrageous” as it gets and dwarfs anything the other side has...

Out of the 95 counties and 38 independent cities in the state, 91 counties and 34 cities have passed resolutions declaring themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries.

96% of the counties
80% of the cities

That is an overwhelming majority.

where did you get this? I haven't seen anything remotely like this. Most counties just have a reading or some such.

I'd like to know the total population counts associated with the cities and counties on both sides. I'd like to know the numbers.

That map and ones like it, underscore my theory that the "Balkanization" of America will occur along city-state vs rural lines. And I'll gladly live in the wild, uncontrolled "Badlands". Some of you guys and gals need to think about moving, before the gates close. ;)

VCDL website.

That map shows counties/cities that have passed resolutions and some of those locations have gone further than that.

Here’s a better map....

Right. I know you're being sarcastic, but that's exactly right. The message is way more important than the tea. Hold your tea party where it serves you best.

This whole drama is what happens when you don't take elections seriously. Elections do in fact have consequences. After Northam's debacle last year with the late term abortion nonsense, it should have been a no-brainer that the dems would have been run out of town. Instead, too many people sat on their hands and let the dems win (Which is to say, this whole miserable affair is less about the Second, and everything to do about voter apathy; who in their legitimate, rational mind supports late-term abortion - murder, which we know the dems unabashedly support?). If you automatically assume the urbanites will automatically win and thus not vote, then, you do indeed get the government you vote for. Everyone must become informed, and must vote.

This, and more.

I migrated from Colorado 5 years ago, and the same thing that happened there in 12/13 is now happening in VA.

Simple view; the politicians are in power. No amount of protesting, recall elections, or even sheriff posturing changed the outcome there (feel free to googlefu, as a tremendous amount of grass roots efforts were made), much like the states that came before...

CO is even worse now...

How will be it any different in VA?

We are behind Europe on politicians trying to tell us what's best whether we like it or not, and we are rapidly catching up with then.
