I have a model 100 308. I would like to function. This is the common problem during the year made. Tried replacing extractor system but didn’t fix the problem (does work ever so often). Should I try having the barrel redone? I feel like there may have been some swelling in it for how hold it is. Love the gun and my first rifle but don’t want it to be the single shot.

Do a deep clean on the chamber. You want it clean enough and smooth enough for a cartridge to drop into and out of the chamber by gravity alone.

Have you replaced the old firing pin with the new version? It will not help with extraction but is a good idea to have the new version. A clean chamber is a necessity if you want it to function properly. My 100 had not been used in a long time when I got it and was gummy from old oil. A good cleaning got it running properly. I have even had bolt action rifles fail to function properly because of dirty chambers.

My friend who does a lot with guns tried to clean it all. Maybe I’ll try to do another big cleaning. I’m sure he worked on it for a while but wouldn’t hurt to try it again. I don’t believe he ever replaced the firing pin but did replace the extractor. I do think it’s got be something with the chamber being so old and sitting in the stack of my friends grandpas left overs from his gun store.

Just completed a deep cleaning and did see it was more built up than I thought. Put the bullets in and cycled it with no issues. Bullet slides in and out. Now just time to hit the range and hope.

Contact Winchester about a replacement firing pin. They should send you one free of charge. The internet has videos on how to replace it. The old one can break and jam the pin so that it slam fires. Do it.

Well got to the range yesterday and had no luck after the deep cleaning. I’ll check with my buddy but believe he did the firing pin/ extractor but will have to check.
