My Ranger passenger airbag was recalled in March. No parts yet.Another 3.3 million cars subject to recall. These Takata airbag recalls never seem to stop. Make sure your vehicles don't have any open recalls on them.
I think the auto companies are prioritizing older vehicles as the issue with the airbags relates to chemical degradation of the propellant over time. So the oldest vehicles are at the greatest risk, and newer vehicles may have to wait a bit.My Ranger passenger airbag was recalled in March. No parts yet.
Makes sense. That said, mine is 9 years old.I think the auto companies are prioritizing older vehicles as the issue with the airbags relates to chemical degradation of the propellant over time. So the oldest vehicles are at the greatest risk, and newer vehicles may have to wait a bit.
If you check out the websites that are tracking the outstanding recalls (can't recall the site I saw a while back), there are a lot of older vehicles than yours that haven't had the repair yet. Plus your recall is only from March - some of these Takata recalls date a few years!Makes sense. That said, mine is 9 years old.

They can't - they are in bankruptcy.I used to sell to Takata. I can't imaging how they can sustain the cost of this incredible mess. Sad!
Yep. Their recall-related expenses will be unsecured claims against Takata. Some % of those claims may be recovered, but the rest they will take a loss on.So eventually the automakers have to eat it?

And get this:
Approximately 34 million vehicles are currently under recall for approximately 46 million defective Takata air bags that can explode when the air bag deploys, causing serious injury or even death. Additional air bags are scheduled to be recalled by December 2019, bringing the total number of affected air bags to around 65-70 million.
