Found this interesting old war horse on the used rack at Cabelas in Garner today. It is a former WW2 Izhevsk PU sniper rifle that was postwar retrofitted back to a standard issue Mosin. Of course, they have no idea what it is or that it is different than the other 25 mixed mosin refurbs they have on the rack. It is a bit too pricey at $400 IMHO, but if I was determined to buy a Mosin from Cabelas at their "top of the panic bubble" pricing, I'd much rather buy this one than the others.

These days, that isn't a bad price for an ex-sniper. Run-of-the-mill 91/30s are going for $330-$350 most places anymore.

I think there is a bit of an artificial panic bubble on these things. Because the "glory days" of C&R imports is over and there is not much moving across the milsurp market in bulk, folks are panicking and overpaying for whatever is showing up. I can't imagine paying Cabelas $400 for a basic refurb 91/30 when I could spend $650 at CMP and get a field grade Garand shipped right to my door.

Saw it as well a week ago, they're in better shape than the last 6 mosins cabelas had listed as grade 1 and 2 with rusted growing from the crown and handguard cap lol
