I’m an new 07-02 SOT and about 8 months ago I purchased an German MP5 parts kit. I enjoy building things with my hands but this was a very intimidating project. Initially I contacted several of the well known HK builders and was seriously considering sending it off to have someone do the work. Then I watched a series of videos where the guy basically builds one. That gave me the confidence to try it on my own. I ordered the flat from Beltfed and would happily suggest them to anyone. Carlos was more than willing to answer some questions for me and even sent me some rivets at no charge after I munched a couple up.
There were several times during this process where I made mistakes that scared me to death. In case anyone reading this doesn’t know there are not exactly a million walk throughs on how to do this build. So, sometimes when I got stuck it took some creative thinking to work around the problem. I lost sleep and worked til 4 in the morning a time or tow. I would definitely not suggest doing this to anyone that has not done other firearm builds that involve welding, cutting, grinding and fitting. This ain’t no AR-15.
I parkerized the frame and then coated the outside with Moly Resin. I sort of misted it on over the course of several passes, so it has a sort of grainy porous texture that does not in any way resemble factory but I think looks great.
I recoated the stock which was a royal pain in the ass. I had to make special tools to re-assemble it. That spring inside that runs the release lever is a real bear. I felt it would be unwise/safe to heat the rubber parts of the stock up to 300 degrees, so I had a friend of mine coat the arms with air dry Cerakote. That was the last piece.
It runs like a striped ape and its stupid accurate. I decide to put a suppressor on it that was built by Ecco Machine and it is surprisingly quiet, even on full auto.
