I've been browsing the internet for a few days trying to decide on my first can. It will primarily be used for hunting and some target shooting.

I will mainly be shooting 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor, however I do believe a 300BO is in my future and wouldn't mind putting it on my .223/556 occasionally. Thusly I need a 30 cal can.

The can I continue to see recommended is the Silencerco Harvester.

I have about $1k + stamp to spend

So the question is: What can+ set up would you direct me toward for my price range?

Unless you're doing nothing but hunting, with very little shooting, I can't imagine anybody recommending a Harvester.

Yes, it'll handle a mag of 5.56...but it shines on a low volume host.

Any of the offerings from Dead Air, or Rugged, or maybe even Q would be better. Or any other rifle can SiCo offers. The new Energeric Arms Vox should also be considered. As should the YHM Resonator.

I have a buddy that's been talking about a Mystic X for about 2 years now. He plans to swap it between his 9mm AR pistol and his soon to be built 300blk pistol.

I don't know much about that can. Is it gtg?

I run 5.56, 300BLK, .308 and 6.5CM through my SiCo Omega. I've really enjoyed it. It's relatively light, effective and versatile with the various mount options. On the .308 and 6.5, my hunting loads track right along with the target loads with regard to accuracy, Unlike my AAC 762-SD POS can.

While I have 4 of them, I'm not a suppressor geek up on all the latest data, I just know I like this can a bunch.

I wouldn't buy one, for whatever that's worth.

Yeah, it has a listing of dozens of calibers, but I think there are a lot better options out there...ESPECIALLY if you think you'll end up with more cans (and you will).

I'd look at a Griffin Optimus or a SiCo Hybrid if I really wanted to share a can between "normal" pistols and rifles...and I don't wanna do that. I'd go Optimus if all I had was 9mm, or Hybrid if I was shooting .40 or .45.

If I was offered the opportunity, I wouldn't hesitate to put an Omega on every rifle I owned (assuming barrel length and caliber fit their recommendations). It's a great can.

I have a harvester I bought from Scott. I love it. It stays on my 308 bolt gun for hunting and occasionally target shooting. So low volume shooting. It’s light and does a great job suppressing sound. The only dislike I have is it’s not qd. I wish it was by sometimes it backs off slightly. I just check it often to make sure it’s tight. I would look hard at the vox with the deadair keymo mount or a sandman s. They weigh more but are qd. Not sure where your at but your more than welcome to check mine out one day if we could meet up.

Thanks for all the responses.

A couple answers to questions above:

1) I'll be shooting the can on a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun, 6.5 Grendel AR platform, 5.56 bolt and AR platforms, and a 300 BO AR platform

2) I'm not expecting to shoot high volume suppressed. I could be wrong, but it will mainly be for my hunting platforms. I have some phenomenal deer hunting property with neighbors, and an opportunity for night hunting coyotes.

3) I'm looking at the Dead Air line currently. Again, I could be wrong, but don't imagine I will need a QD, so I'm leaning toward the Dead Air Sandman Ti

Moving between that many platforms, even occasionally, would push me towards the QD.

NOT necessarily for the ease of use of mounting the suppressor itself, but more because of the implications it has on your muzzle devices for the AR platforms. If you don't go QD, and only go direct thread, then bouncing it to one of your AR platforms means removing the flash hider/brake from the AR to mount the suppressor. So, you have a muzzle device that's not properly secured (rockset, loctite, etc) and potentially impacts POA/POI each time you want to run the can.

I use a QD mount for everything except the 6.5CM bolt gun. The bolt gun has a simple thread protector when the can is not in use. The Omega makes switching from a QD mount to direct thread super easy.

The Mystic was my first can. It’s a jack of all trades in that’s it an overbuilt 9mm can, which gives it versatility at the expense of being really long and really heavy. It is easy to clean and sounds good as a 9mm can. If I knew I would have as many dedicated cans as I do now I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but I’m not in need of what it can potentially suppress.

To the OP you mention a lot of different hosts and what would be best for a semi auto in 300blk won’t necessarily be best for a 5.56 bolt gun. There will be a trade off somewhere, as there always is, with sound suppression/length/weight/durability so I would recommend that you look at which gun you really want to suppress the most and maybe gear your choice toward that. For example, some .30cal suppressors are designed for maximum suppression on 300blk while others do better with .308. Some focus on accuracy, while others are lighter weight and give up some durability or suppression.

For my first suppressor that would live among many hosts I would look for something QD and full length. On ARs I prefer shorter k-length cans because I wear a set of ears anyway and just want to tame the sound and concussion with as little weight out front as possible, but that wouldn’t be my choice for a first can. Since your firing schedule doesn’t seem to be aimed at magdumps maybe a titanium .30 cal can from sig or Q might be right for you.
