I found a CD with a bunch of pictures from Navy officer school (AKA, knife-and-fork school), Pensacola, Florida, Aug-Sept 2004. I have a shitload of pics, only putting up a few.

In front of our barracks for a morning formation and probably inspection.

Another one, but in our whites.

Looking down the street, the bay to our backs, OCS to the right, our classroom on the left behind the F-18, and NACS (air crew school) immediately to our right.

Typical classroom session. Always yawning or drinking coffee. It was easy, but the days were long, 20-hours days.

Yes, really, knife-and-fork school. This lady taught etiquette. We would have a chance to practice it a few days later at a dining-in.

Damage control training. One of the few areas of training you get regardless of rank or job. The guy who taught it was stationed on the USS Cole when it was attacked. This room would fill up chest-deep with multiple holes that needed patched and plugged.

Gunnery Sergeant "Gunny" Williams. Generally an amiable fella, he turned right nasty when we were too slow, which was far too often.

Gunny Williams, again. The man was harder than woodpecker lips.

Those barracks look considerably nicer than the enlisted accommodations at CBC Gulfport.

I had to go to a school in Millington, 5 3-day weekends, once a month. We stayed in the Navy Lodge.

The barracks weren't bad, at all. Four men to a room.

I could be wrong, but if the bay is behind you, NACCS would be to your port side.

You are right, I mistyped that. NACS to the left. We had to eat in the chow hall on the bottom floor of the OCS barracks. That was...interesting.

Aviation Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, 1981

Day Zero:

A few hours later:

They had these huge A/C units that dripped water all the time. Perfect place for push-ups. This was near the end, after we had hair again, and the D/I just wanted to have a little fun with us.

The reward.

I posted this a few weeks ago, but here is the video the recruiters used to prepare us.

@MostWanted , I know those barracks well. So does @sr30 . During BRAC they moved all OCS and officer programs to Newport. I was disappointed to hear that. Pensacola is so steeped in Naval history and tradition.

They also moved all the aviation rating A schools to Pensacola. Wish they’d done that when I was going through the pipeline. I HATED Millington.

Some of them were already there when I was at Pensacola, way on the other side of the exchange.

I wonder what Pensacola is doing with all of those former classes and barracks?

CBC Gulfport huh? Retired CEC(SCW) here.

CM2(SCW)....most of my time was spent as a reservist with NMCB26 (midwest). Most fun job I ever had, wish I'd have made it a career.

I always assumed there would be more classes on making and drinking tar-like coffee.
